We used to keep a couple comets and a black moore in a 50-gallon tank together. They seemed pop flyin' and healthy and they lived for at least ~4-5 years (we gave them to someone else when we moved). I was hoping a 10-gallon would be enough for one black moore. :(

I had a similar predicament where I had a betta in a small tank, he died very quickly, and I had no idea why. (He was a koi betta named Dio and now the castle he had lurks in the corner of my 20g)

If you want a good in-between size, a 20 gallon freshwater tank is relatively easy and cheap to take care of, while still being able to stock a decent amount of fish. As a general rule of thumb, you can have 1 inch, or about 1 gram, of fish per gallon of water in the tank. Smaller tanks are also easier to stress out, so can sometimes be a little tougher to maintain if you aren't experienced with aquariums. (But that's just a general statement, I don't know how much you personally know!)

You could even potentially have another male betta, and other fish. They can do very well with peaceful community fish, granted they have adequate room to move around, and none of them look too much like another male betta. I've seen them done with a lot of schooling fish, they can even serve as good fry control if you have live bearers.

I have a few Micky mouse platys and cory catfish in my tank now. They're surprisingly full of character, and a lot of fun to feed.

Shazza is right about the water issue though. You need to find out if you can really use tap water or not. At least where I am it's fairly easy to find RO water for about 50 cents a gallon, so I spend about 2 bucks a week on water. I wouldn't touch my tap though, I live on a limestone shelf and my water is hard as a rock. There are also a lot of cool tricks to avoid some other monthly fees (like filters, which can be pricey), so beyond the initial setup cost, I think having a fish tank is one of the cheapest hobbys I've had. :psyduck:

But I won't clog up the thread with fish talk, I hope you feel better though! Losing a betta is a lot harder than some people realize. :(

I'm an unlikeable asshole and I don't deserve anything people do for me.

I was rude to my sister last week-end because I was rustled at her kids breaking/stealing my things and it made her sad.
My mother has done a lot to help me with my car in the last two weeks and I was rude to her today because she criticized my driving and she deserves better.
I keep whining about being unable to establish and maintain any meaningful and satisfying relationship with anyone but I make myself purposely hard to reach and keep avoiding potential opportunities, and when people do act friendlily towards me, I start acting like a detached jerk to make them go away.
I complain about having no life but I avoid doing anything that can be avoided and do everything else reluctantly.
When good things do happen I still find a way to make it sound bad because I'm unable to enjoy anything and I can't process unironically positive feelings.

Keep trying to convince myself that I've come to terms with my depression but I'm still unable to face the reality of it.

Feel like I'm just trying to blind myself to it right now.

Tonight is going to be the depression marathon night, where I don't eat despite being really hungry and I feel no motivation to do anything at all.

Saw a cousin today that I used to hang out with a lot. He just kinda waved at me and went on with his day. Kinda made me feel sadly nostalgic about being little again. I no longer enjoy any of the things I did as a kid. Oh well :/

I'm already stressed out about a lot of things, but seeing how horribly volatile everyone's been acting after the election is enough to bring one to tears. It feels like everyone's ripping each other down than bringing them up, especially with all the disgusting things I've read. No one's said anything to me, but feeling so unwelcome in your own country or even family is pretty tough.

Well, I haven't had a good basically-bedridden day full of guilt for being sick instead of working in a while.

As it turns out, I take criticism very harshly. I thought I was the type of person who could always walk away from negatives with more good than bad. As it turns out, I've just been bottling up my initial responses to criticism and convincing myself otherwise.

Well, as it turns out, the shelf holding all those bottled emotions decided to collapse and leave shattered glass all over, spilling out all the things I tried to hide away. So, I'm currently experiencing months of disappointment, anxiety, dread and some weird orange and purple emotions that are just too abstract to properly define.

To explain it simply, I'm very bummed out.

A significant portion of the Critical Role community is being outright hostile to the players and DM after last night's game, so much so that I'm worried that at some point in the next three weeks' hiatus they're just going to take their game off the air and play privately again.

I thought visiting the parents for a few days over Christmas would be a good idea but my mother, as usual, sounded like she didn't even care at all over the phone, in fact I would say that my spending a few days with them would annoy her. And of course they don't do Christmas anymore so no gifts, no celebration. Just endless criticism of random shit in my life and enough stress to make me physically ill.

I'm really starting to regret making plans, but i already set up friends to cat-sit, and already called mom. Plus I set up a dentist appointment for Tuesday morning so I have to at least stay that long.

The worst part is, every year I think "oh, I should spend time with family, it won't be that bad" and every time it turns out the same way. Even now I'm thinking "I haven't even driven there yet, it won't be that bad". But at best we'll just ignore each other for a few hours.

Yeah btw going home to see the parents was a pretty big waste of time. But I'm back now, so I'm not sad about that.

I'm worried that my kitty might have a kitty cold :( He sneezed a few times and had a lot of snot, and he's still hiding under the bed. He ate more last week but now he's not eating much again. Poor baby.

I'm so socially blind that I haven't noticed the subtle signs of one of my closest friendships slowly growing distant over the course of the last three years.

I lost two really, really close friends this week and the status of a third is questionable at best.

I'm feeling abandoned and I don't know what to do.
