Police were targeted in the midst of a protest in Dallas, Texas. 11 officers wounded, 4 officers dead.

The protesters and the police were doing their best to maintain civility and ensure that they served as examples to live up to, but then two individuals had to ruin everything. I have friends and family who are officers here in Houston; I'm dreading what tomorrow brings and am praying that they and their coworkers maintain their composure rather than contribute to the endless loop of contempt and violence that feeds this lack of trust between citizenry and police.

EDIT: 12 officers were shot, and 5 dead.

The police used a remote-controlled bomb robot to place an explosive device close to the shooter and detonated it to resolve the situation. There are people who actually find that to be morally dubious, which downright confuses me. A shootout with the suspect would have possibly resulted in even more police deaths or injuries; using the robot was the best way for them to deal with the shooter.

So I happened to glance at the "about the author" bit at the bottom of the page.

About Dom the Conservative wrote:
Dom is a conservative Christian who specializes in Middle Eastern affairs, Islamic immigration (hijra), Christianity, Islam, and Sharia law. She hopes to expose Islam as a fundamentally violent, political and religious ideology that seeks to use freedom and democracy to destroy freedom and democracy.

I'd also hesitate to get my news from something called "Mad World News".

So, I try to post some good news, and the first thing anyone will say is that because of both the name of the site, and the fact that the author is a conservative Christian, it's automatically a lie?

That's the first thing that came to mind, yeah. I mean, imagine posting news about international politics from Buzzfeed or something. Checking your sources is kind of an important thing to do.

And I didn't say the article was a lie, or anything LIKE that, I'm just saying the site in general seems pretty sketchy.

However, I also wonder about the veracity of those sites. Conservative media websites are often suspected of being not entirely honest, and I don't believe liberal and moderate websites are any different.

A terrorist attack happened in France today. 80 deaths so far, 100 injured.

This world we live in is a disgusting place at times.

Apparently Turkey has a lot of coups, I'm reading. The military was formed with the ideals of the country's founder in mind, and isn't controlled by the president. Also, since every citizen has to serve it generally also has the support of the people.
Hopefully this is a fairly bloodless one.

Supposedly the Army is reluctant to fire on civilians and the president has ordered people to do his dirty work for him and it's led to a sort of stalemate.

So, for Turkey there are a lot of people suggesting that the coup was staged to allow Ergogan to seize more power and crackdown on inter-office dissidents, which would be something he would absolutely do. The problem with that is this coup kinda went overboard and when you're a nuclear equipped NATO frontline nation with an already shaky past, you're not doing yourself any favors. NATO is threatening to boot Turkey out, especially if all this shit was staged and if THAT happens a REAL booty coup might happen because Erdogan would have just had the country go from 0 to 60 on the oh shit scale in a week.

Wow... I didn't know Turkey had their own nuclear arsenal. I know that the US had some there at one point during the Cold War that were later withdrawn, but I never heard they had built their own.

Wikipedia wrote:
Under NATO nuclear weapons sharing, the United States has provided nuclear weapons for Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey to deploy and store. This involves pilots and other staff of the "non-nuclear" NATO states practicing, handling, and delivering the U.S. nuclear bombs, and adapting non-U.S. warplanes to deliver U.S. nuclear bombs. However, since all U.S. nuclear weapons are protected with Permissive Action Links, the host states cannot arm the bombs without authorization codes from the U.S. Department of Defense.
