Hey guys, I am in serious trouble here. Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.

My roommate gave me a 30-day ultimatum to move out of our apartment with a few very vague reasons as to why. I am unable to move back in with my parents and don't have anywhere else to live currently. I am going to be on the streets if I can't find a place. I'm in the SoCal area. If you guys know anyone at all that has space for me to live, even if it's just temporary, PLEASE let me know. A spare room, a couch, an attic, a cellar, anything.

I am being completely serious right now. This is not a joke.

Is he legally able to kick you out like that?

Would finding a new apartment with a roommate be a valid idea? I'm sure there are online communities and such for finding roommates.

Outside of parents do you know any relatives in the area who would be willing to let you stay at their place (aunts, uncles, older siblings?)

You could try looking into some type of government affordable housing or whatever.

I managed to get into the affordable housing system here in Tennessee, though it took a bit longer than we had hoped. Hopefully you can find something like that in your area.

Unfortunately, the only person I know who lives remotely close to you has living troubles with his family and barely even has enough space for his own bed. Hmmm...

Is it possible to find a shitty apartment in your price range that's close to what you were paying currently? Try checking Craigslist and stuff to see if anyone is looking for roommates or looking to rent out a guest room or something.

Also how are you on transportation? I imagine SoCal is expensive so if things are really dire, moving completely out of that area is an option you should consider.

....Also also, see if you can find out why your roommate is wanting to kick you out in the first place, maybe he's just mad and needs to calm down before he can be reasoned with? I don't know what your situation is though.

provided your roommate is following proper landlord/tenant eviction law for california (from what i glazed over this requires written notice and 30 days notice) your best bet is craigslist. you could at least find someone who you can rent out for a month or so until you get yourself together. put our an ad on there saying youre looking for someone to stay to widen your net as well as looking through who is looking for roommates on there.

She was staying there without any rent, aside from contributing to groceries/utilities, so unfortunately, the roommate/actual leaseholder is entirely within his right to say "eh, I don't really want her on our couch anymore."

I mean, it's still not a great situation for her, but it's in no way illegal, and in all honesty, she's kind of lucky that the dude isn't enough of a dick to say "your shit needs to be gone tomorrow", which would also be fully within his legal right.

Perhaps you could offer to help pay the rent? I don't know what your financial situation is like either, though.

I actually ended up paying $100 a month(even though Riku is correct that that is what we originally agreed to), and that was about what I was able to afford after monthly student loan payments.

I've got a few last resort, temporary options, but right now finding a better/second job would help me be able to pay for someplace myself or with the help of a hopefully better roommate.

OK update about this so nobody thinks I'm going to die.

I'm watching my parent's dogs for a few days and moved all my stuff out of Asshole Roommate's Shit Emporium. Just waiting to hear back from someone about possibly staying in a room they're renting out. It's more than I want to pay for it but it's better than being homeless.

It's good to hear you've at least got a place to stay. Hope things get better, Kates.

I have a friend who was in the exact same situation a couple of months back. He was roommates with his brother and his brother kicked him out. You would think his own brother would not be so heartless? He ended up living in his car. It's not that bad. He goes shopping, he still hangs out with us, he doesn't smell bad, he just sleeps in his car instead of sleeping in a house.
