Having beaten the game, I can confirm that it seems to follow the same "no non-main series characters" restriction that hurt Sticker Star. HOWEVER it deals with it far better. The dialogue is definitely not a downside; I'd actually rate it as really good - there's a couple of characters in particular that I find are explored particularly well (Peach and Bowser Junior, and the Bowsers get their time to shine too. The koopalings actually SPEAK, and they seem like real characters instead of minibosses.)

It's far from perfect, and the story is definitely the weakest point, but the battle system is really refined and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I wasn't toad collecting (and some moments that I was). It ties with dream team imo, whose interesting world and A+ soundtrack made me not really mind all the tutorials.

To be fair, the dialogue in Sticker Star wasn't bad, there simply wasn't very much of it.

I beat Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. It was a little underwhelming, I suppose. A younger me would have gone nutso for a crossover game between the two Mario RPG serieses. Seriess?? Seresii?? The battle system is totally sweet, and a lot of love and detail was put into all of the enemies, despite them being your typical NSMB fare. A lot of wasted potential, IMO. Everything seemed streamlined, at least. The difficulty was good, though honestly some of the enemy attacks are next to fucking impossible to 100% dodge.

Anyways, so there's that rumor about a Paper Mario U?? I hope that's a thing that happens.

So I decided to unearth this thread for when Super Mario Odyssey eventually comes out.

Uhm... Hats? Super Mario 64 3?

I dunno...

Sunshine plays a lot more like 64 than any of the Galaxy or 3D [PLACE] games, and they made a point of that in the Switch presentation segment about Odyssey before saying that the latter would play like those two games. So basically if you want to format it like the really awkwardly named gameboy advance mario ports:

Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 2: Super Mario Sunshine

Super Mario 64 3: Super Mario Odyssey

The repeating "Super Mario: Super Mario" is driving me completely insane.

The real games did it first.
Fancy playing Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3?

Eh, Sonic 3CD & Knuckles & Knuckles was a better game.

3DS remake of Superstar Saga leaked. This is from the same guy who has reliably hacked pretty much every 3DS pokemon game inside and out, including getting us the entire pokedex in Sun and Moon from the demo, so I'm inclined to believe it.
