Last Pathfinder game was pretty good. My elephant jumped over the cleric to charge a goblin boss, the cleric shot the rogue again with a heavy crossbow and I charged up an altar riding the elephant to swat a flying caster into the tusks of the elephant with a ranceur.

That last one was a pretty tough fight though, it had dr 5/cold iron which we had no way of bypassing, 19 AC and it casted hold person, fear and enfeeblement ray while summoning sinspawn. Also our wizard wasn't there. (lvl 2 party for reference)

I could have wiped the party today if I had wanted to. Green dragon's breath weapon recharged rapidly and in two rounds there were two unconscious bodies laying before it with no damage done to the dragon. Luckily, even the greedy asshole of the group was smart enough to up-end the portable hole full of stolen goods to placate the dragon.

The Illusionist's tower they had to deal with after that went off without a hitch and left the party at level 5. They even made a friend out of an opponent (though I don't plan on keeping her around). Now I need to hurry and finish Tharizdun's temple for the next session.

I've finally finished it. An revised, 5E-updated version of The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun. I couldn't actually find the original module (for free) but I based it on what pieces of information I could find, and I've dressed it up as a return to the temple decades after when the original adventure was set (so mostly undead and aberrations).

You can review it here if you like.

And these are the dungeon maps I drew up:

Level 1

Level 2

The Black Cyst

I just got done writing a campaign for Star Wars Edge of the Empire for my gaming group and I'm so excited to run it.

The players dealt with Patrick Swayze in Ghost today. They exorcised the ranger by beating him into unconsciousness, chased the ghost away, and round 2 began several hours later when the ghost repossessed the ranger.

The druid tanked a room full of ghouls as a hyena. Actually took eleven hits, one of which was critical, just to knock him out of beast form.

The fucking rogue player knew what a Mimic was and avoided a lethal trap, even after I made him roll an Int check to make sure his character knew what a Mimic was.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good starting rulebook or something to get a group into it? I've got one guy who's done it before and a few who haven't, but the guy who doesn't doesn't actually own much related to it, he's used other people's stuff.

I'd suggest 5th edition. It's specifically designed for new players. For 5th Edition, Wizards has some free material to get new players started. Obviously it's somewhat bare, only a few basic classes and races and the rules you need to know to get a game started, but free will get you on the road, at least.

If you want to play 3.5, the core rulebooks and several additions are available online as .pdfs (although I can't vouch for the legality of downloading them).

You could check out the Pathfinder starting set if you happen to be 5.

In today's session, the grand finale of the Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun, the party summoned a devil that pointed them to powerful magical items in exchange for its freedom and also offered his assistance in whatever was going to be found later in the dungeon. He ended up being brainwashed by Tharizdun himself (though miraculously the entire party avoided the same influence), so he ended up harassing the cleric who was specifically sent to the temple by Pelor, her god, to put an end to Tharizdun's schemes. They found in the deepest chamber a mind flayer attempting some mad ritual; though I didn't really get a chance to explain this to the party, the illithid arrived at the abandoned temple trying to find a way to siphon Tharizdun's power for himself, but ended up being enslaved by the god and had his psionic abilities used to raise the dead cult and fulfill their rituals to Tharizdun. The mind flayer himself dominated the paladin and very nearly divested the rogue of his juicy brain, but ended up falling under the ranger's blades.

It was a wild ride.

Next time we get together, they'll meet a dragon they've met before, and this time they won't be walking away without a fight.

I play in an Edge of the Empire game at a gaming bar and whenever we play one of the Wookiees almost always ends up drop kicking an enemy while I slowly grow more and more sadistic

Nothing changes a Bothan more than shoving a grenade inside a dude's gaping chest wound and watching it explode and you fly away on a landspeeder
