I don't have any actual Magic cards whatsoever but I would love to play a star/color wheel game (5 players, each player's goal is to eliminate the two players not adjacent to them) with my family. I keep trying to think of who would get what color but I'm only kind of certain on who would get white, blue, and red, and not sure at all who would get black and green. I keep thinking that telling everyone about their colors would probably go something like "[Brother], you get blue, the color of ponderous thought. [Sister], you get red, the color of emotions. I get white, the color of justice. Mom, you get green, the color of nature and instinct. Dad, you get black, the color that was left."

30 is basically a steal for so many. There's single cards costing many times more than that. Maybe he was lucky and there was something valuable in it the seller didn't know about.

We're still sorting and organizing through them. It sounds like they were intended to be a collection of all commons (though a handful of uncommons and three rares(so far) are in there) so I don't think there is going to be entirely too much value in any one card.

Found a couple that were from 1994, though.

I've always wanted to learn how to play Magic, but none of my friends play and I'm too nervous to go to a Friday Night Magic place nearby and embarrassing myself by messing up in a match. So, I've just not bothered ever buying any cards except for one blue starter deck that I tried to learn to play with online but gave up because I couldn't figure out how the program worked.

Get Magic Duels on steam. It's free.

I thought about downloading that once, but the reviews for it seem to be fairly negative so I wasn't so sure about it. I might as well try it though I guess.

I think the reviews started going negative when, like, a few thousand people got angry when they were watching a pro's live stream and that person lost an online tournament to a glitch.

Or something.

Read it while trying to get it running on my tablet (and failed).

Oh, well that makes sense. I suppose I'll give it a shot then. Should be fun.

If nothing else, you can just power through the tutorial and take all that knowledge to an actual card shop if something makes the software unenjoyable.

That's also a good idea. As long as it works though, the game should be fine for me.

Broke down and bought some Magic cards for myself since I've been playing with a group on Mondays and Fridays. It's alright.

Played a pretty fun/silly game of Magic yesterday with the Battle for Zendikar event deck against my friends' mono white Commander deck. Misplays all around but I managed to pull through with an unblockable 24/24 Nantuko Husk despite being massively behind and one turn away from certain death.

I absolutely love this card, but I can't think of how to make the most of it.

It seems like a good card to play if your opponent has a creature with good activated or passive abilities. Copy it, use the X to buff the thing to high hell and then (if you have the mana leftover) nuke the original. Now you have the abilities of the original but it's able to take more hits and kill more things.

Other way I could see it being used it on an opponent's Unblockable creature. Copy it, then buff it up. Bonus point if it was previously unblockable due to Intimidate.

That's more or less how I use it, get a big squid with islandwalk, or wait until my opponent casts Emrakul then I cast an even bigger Emrakul.

But I can't shake the feeling there's some weird combination it's perfect for.

You'd probably need a Library of Leng or some other hand-increasing card but:

Copy that and boom, infinite cards and +1/+1 counters.

EDIT: bonus points if you follow up with this:
