Activision Blizzard has announced that it is buying King Digital Entertainment, creators of Candy Crush Saga, for $5.9 billion.

That's right, one of the biggest AAA video game producers in the US just bought a one-hit-wonder mobile game company for a little less than 6 billion dollars.

To be fair, as the article explains, this can help boost King's profits after it has recently been on a decline due to every other game they make failing miserably, and it can expand King's global reach and have both companies benefit from the combined userbase - a whopping 500 million unique users per month, larger than even Twitter.

But still.

It's Activision Blizzard buying the guys that made Candy Crush for six billion dollars.

Basically this means Activision is making a big move onto the mobile market.

Yeah, moving into the mobile market to increase revenue while WoW continues its (very slow) decline in subscribers and other continuous revenue games like OverWatch are still in development is solid business sense. They also have HoTS getting them cheddar and Destiny recently decided to sell emotes (dances and such) for premium currency. Oh, and Activision already decided to make a big move into the mobile market when they put the juggernaut that is HearthStone on phones after the initial PC and tablet rollout.

I'd like to think that this is more due to incompetency and/or ignorance on part of the people planning the party, but the way Zenimax has been marketing this game leads me to believe that making it all Hollywood was a calculated maneuver.

If P4R Gaming was still making stuff, it would definitely have an excellent parodic skewering of the event by now.

So after a few months of waiting, we finally get a Nintendo Direct on November 12.
