Let me just drop in to comment on the fact that these comic titles are always extremely witty and I love them.

I really should play the Last of Us sometime.

I hear by echolocation it's good.

Like this? http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2013/06/19
Or this? http://iamarg.com/2013/06/19/thelastofus/

Huh, what are the odds of two different webcomics making almost identical stripes on the same day?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, as it's been a while since I played, but don't the mechanics of sneaking actually work properly when it comes to echolocation? Clickers notice if you make a sound (step on twig, throw brick) because they're blind but not deaf. Clickers also notice if you're moving in front of them, not due to sound generated but due to their echolocation: the movement of Joel tips them off, not the sound of his footsteps. If Joel stays completely still in the Clicker's "sightline" (using "sight" colloquially as a word to describe the Clicker's field of perception), the Clicker doesn't notice him because he acts as an obstacle. Keeping this in mind, it can be assumed that Clickers have no spacial memory; Joel (standing still) just shows up as a wall or a table or something, and the Clicker avoids him. However, if Joel starts moving, the Clicker determines he is no longer an obstacle but instead an object and chases after him. The echolocation doesn't have anything to do with sound at all - though, because the Clicker can hear, sound still registers as something to attack.

If I am recalling the game mechanics correctly, even creeping along in front of a Clicker tips it off and causes an attack; standing still does not. Therefore, echolocation is used correctly in the Clicker's detect/attack mechanism.

Sidenote: If I am indeed remembering the mechanics correctly, this would explain why Clickers are typically on their own; the noticing of an object due to echolocation only tells location, not composition, so the Clicker would, in theory, attack the other non-clicker zombies - leaving the Clicker as the only one left in a room, given enough time and unlucky path crossings.

Doesn't excuse the whole "talking is a free action/talking doesn't count as sound" thing, though. Or Ellie being able to make as much noise and motion as she wants without being noticed. Ah, the joys of game mechanics. And, hell, I could be completely misremembering the game entirely.

The fact the art for both comics is exactly the same may have some connection to that.

It probably is, because Photobucket is shit but for some reason Katie is the last person on the internet who uses it.

Personally speaking I don't understand why the comics are hosted on any public image host. There's very obviously a server right there hosting the rest of the website!

The way echolocation typically works, As explained in an episode of the Magic School Bus, is:
Thing makes sound
Sound spreads outwardly bouncing off everything it comes in contact to.
Eventually returns back to thing that made the sound.

It would show up like a blip on sonar, appearing shortly then disappearing again. They would need something that tells them "huh there was nothing there before now there is" or "huh, that thing was over there a second ago" Also something to differentiate food from say a tennis ball that was thrown to distract them. Something where if something vaguely food shaped were in front of them, it would merit investigation.

It sounds more like they have guard patrol AI. The kind where and assassin could leave about 5 dudes in a pile on a patrol route and nobody thinks to up security after they've failed to find anything.

Fortunately, Katie's photobucket gallery is public. Here's the full-size one, which I stole from her gallery and rehosted on imgur.

Because you have to pay more for a server that has enough bandwidth to handle that. This week's comic is 400 KB. If a thousand people look at the new comic every week, and fifty of those people also click back through the last ten comics, that's 2.5 GB of bandwidth per month. That's already about as much bandwidth as you'll get with a cheap-o website. However, I'm sure she gets WAY more than a thousand viewers a week -- the forum topics alone get five thousand views each! And only a small fraction of viewers visit the forums. My guess is she could easily be pushing over a hundred gigs a month of bandwidth if she hosted all the images herself, which would cost her hundreds of dollars every month.

As for why she's alternating between AWS and Photobucket instead of using Imgur... that's anybody's guess. I think AWS costs cheddar, and Photobucket apparently shrinks images sometimes, so neither seems ideal.

In my experience, all size-change issues that I had with Photobucket, also happened on imgur. Specifically, this image is 640*200, and its data states it as such, but it displays as 800*250. The issue may just be elsewhere, though.

I think the problem is that you uploaded the smaller version of it. I mean... it says 200px right in the filename you gave it. If there's a larger 250px version somewhere on your hard drive, it's not the version you put on the internet.

It displays as 250 on my screen (measured with Lightshot), even though the file is/should be 200.

There's no image hosting website in the world that englarges images.

I'm reasonably sure you just have either your browser or all of Windows set to be zoomed in by 25%. If it's your browser, you can reset it by holding Ctrl and pressing 0. If it's your whole computer, right-click on your desktop and go to your graphics options, and you can choose how much your entire screen is enlarged by,
