It's less about viewership and more about distracting from important political issues, like the TTIP deal going through or the US bombing a hospital in Syria.

The thing is, sadly, the reporting of the shooter's name was within the public interest.

4chan's /r9k/ board had worked to essentially frame someone, and his real name had spread on Twitter and elsewhere as the identity of the shooter. Revealing the real name of the shooter helped clear somebody's name, and I do worry that as social media becomes even more spontaneous there will be similar incidents when tragedy strikes and someone who's innocent could wind up getting hurt for real.

I really wish Republicans cared as much about the rest of the constitution and country laws as much as they care about the second stupid amendment!! Or cared about mental health at times other than a school/mass shooting!!

They're politicians. They don't genuinely care about anything, they just say they do to get votes and campaign contributions.

nahhh, they genuinely care about re-election and being career politicians with job security, instead of politicians who care about the people they govern!

I was at work today and someone got shot a little way down the road.

Police officer tried to pull someone over for speeding, but the guy wouldn't stop, so he followed him. The speeder led the officer to the speeder's home, and when they both stopped and the officer got out of his cruiser, the speeder shot him in the chest and is barricaded in his own home now.

So it isn't national news, but it's relevant to current events and issues because golly here is another fucking nutjob American with easy access to firearms.

Good news, though. Adam Dixon (the shot officer) was hit in the sternum and the bullet became lodged there. So no organ damage. One might say he dodged a bullet?

I support banning firearms completely, except for, say, single shot hunting rifles or something to appease the rednecks and ranchers.
But since that won't happen because Republicans exist, maybe we can manage really restrictive gun laws. Like if you have ANY history of drug or alcohol abuse (even a DUI, because that shows you make poor decisions) you are lifetime banned from owned or handling firearms. That'd be a good law.

And while I really hate the argument, I've come to believe that even with a complete ban it would be piss easy to get your hands on one just by virtue of how many there already are in the country and that mexico is right next to you.
But then again, most crazy idiots shooting police officers and then barricading themselves, or crazy idiots shooting up schools have used legally owned guns as far as I know.

Of course they are, ACTUAL criminals arent stupid enough to go on killing sprees, even the lowest drug dealer, and regular crazy assholes dont have the connections to access black market firearms. But facts or logic dont matter here, its a matter based entirerly on fantasy and self image. People so closely identify with guns that trying to take them at this point would likely cause another Waco incident at the very least.

Gun fact! Most of the weapons that the Mexican police confiscate are American made and are often reported stolen from residents in the US.

Enough about America!

Let's have a show of hands!

Who would bang Justin Trudeau?

Mmmmmmmm

In all seriousness, though, it's good that Harper got the boot. We'll see how Little Baby PM does, but I have high hopes.

On the topic of guns. Hunter shoots and killed two elk before realizing he was shooting into a zoo.

Quote:
Nysted, chairman of the wildlife tribunal in Troms County, told the paper that there was no need to punish the men.

“This is a regrettable mistake made in connection with lawful hunting on the outside of the park,” he said. “It was a fatal error, but everyone understands that it was not done at all on purpose.”

It's lovely when sane people are put in charge of things. Happens so... rarely.
