The last entire page of the general game thread's been taken over by undertale so here's an entire thread for it.

If you're popping in wondering wtf the internet is so crazy about suddenly, check out the Steam page for it, or Undertale.com, the latter of which has a free demo available to you.
Get the soundtrack, it's worth the extra eight bucks.

PLEASE tag anything you think might be a spoiler, whether it's midgame or ending stuff. Not everyone's played through the entire game, let alone all the possible routes, be considerate.

Anyway, Galaxy and AquaBat were talking ending stuff, and I was getting dunked on. Discuss, I guess.

I'm trying to go for a bad time, yet I broke down when Papyrus spared me. I immediately spared him and quit the game.
I don't know if I can do this.

Papyrus is the Genocide Killer, it seems, if you can manage to get past one-shotting Toriel and having Flowey call you out. However, apparently being bodaciously Hitler does give the other characters some interesting development, especially Undyne, so I'm debating whether or not I should go for Genocide later or just watch it online and have Flowey berate me for it.

Speaking of genocide runs, one question: I know that during my pacifism run I managed to not even encounter some of the game's enemies at all. Does anyone happen to know if you have to walk aimlessly and actively murder all of the monsters in order to get the Genocide ending?

I'm doing a genocide run right now (but i may in fact quit because the sans fight is complete and utter BULLSHIT) and yes, you have to actively seek out encounters and kill everything until you get fights that have no enemies. Because you killed them all.

genocide is exactly what it sounds like
you kill everything
if you haven't killed everything, then you've failed

but trust me, especially after beating true pacifism, if you decide to go down that route

you're gonna have a bad time

Yes I am fully aware of the two boss fights that are actually boss fights that are bullshit and also how depressing it is to kill characters you bonded with

However, apparently you may not have to fight Undyne and just run away like you do in the Pacifism run but instead of giving her the water you "sadistically pour it on the ground", I kind of want to see if that's true because there's no video of it

Although you may be able to do that in the Neutral route or something

Undertale doesn't seem like a big game at first but by the time I got the true ending I had sank 11 hours into it.

The music gives me joy. So much joy.

I bought it. Just had the Toriel fight.
I refused to use attack. I kept talking and realising it wasn't working, then I noticed her speech bubble was different each time I used "Spare."
Just gotta say I wasn't expecting to have all those feels from a character I met 20 minutes ago.

Yeah when I got to the point where you fight Toriel, I thought maybe you had to keep attacking her until she gave up trying to block your way

The game delivered a 300+ damage critical hit to her and she died :c

I thought about continuing onward but then decided to just reset.
Flowey taunted me about murdering her.

Not really sure why but I find this dragon adorable.
