Fallout 4 apparently takes place around the exact same time period as Fo3, which is 15 yearsish before New Vegas. So I'd say no probably not.

huh, i wonder what the reasoning for that is

I'd guess since it's made by a different studio, no one at Bethesda has a complete grasp on the lore/implications of New Vegas, so they simply decided not to deal with it instead of studying up.

Yeah. I've also heard they don't want to mess with the old lore too much, it's why 3 was on the east coast. They could keep the premise but not have to worry about contradicting earlier lore due to different locations. Guess the guys that made New Vegas felt more confident. If it's true.

New Vegas was made by some of the same people who were behind the original games.

Which is fine anyway because bringing up New Vegas in almost any context would have to officially canonize at least one of a hundred little and large choices made during the game.

Fixed for ya.

it's probably because bethesda hates cannonical endings if there's any choice, seeing as last time they just said they all happened at once because of time fuckery, so this way the final choice for FO3 isn't set in stone and either one could still happen.

i mean, no, not really? NV dosen't have any canon endings.

not really talking about that game, talking more about FO3's endings, but i mean the whole point of NV is that any of them could be canon so

I want to get fallout 4, but I'm still hesitant. What they've shown off looks good, but will it actually be good and complete? I guess I enjoyed skyrim, so this should be okay, but still.

bro the trufacts of the matter is that skyrim was one of the worst games bethesda has made.
at worst, Fo4 will have a fun story that's dragged down by massive glitches. which basically is what you already are supposed to go in and expect with all of their games so like whatever the norm is being upheld.

It's also their most recent game. And the quality of their games has been following a pretty consistent downward trend. And they're still using the same GODAWFUL engine.

Personally, I wasn't that impressed with Fallout 3 either, so I'm not too hyped for this. I'll keep an eye on it for sure though, it could still be fun.

How exactly was Skyrim one of Bethesda's worst games? I mean, yeah it simplified things, but it was so much easier for me to get invested in Skyrim than in, say, Morrowind. Making a game more accessible doesn't automatically make it bad.

As much as I hate the "dumbing-down" of Skyrim's mechanics and gameplay compared to Oblivion, it did make the game a lot more accessible and brought it to a wider audience. I can't really fault BethSoft for making a smart business move that ultimately paid off. (I can fault them for making quests and characters less interesting and fleshed-out but that's a whole 'nother argument)

Also, a huge part of Skyrim's marketing and appeal was "look how pretty this game is, NPCs don't look like potatoes anymore", but it seems like the Fallout 4 material we've seen so far is focusing more on new gameplay features like crafting weapons, building, and expanding the world, so HOPEFULLY that means less dumbing-down of gameplay compared to what happened between Oblivion and Skyrim. (though that's kind of a wild guess at this point)

TBH I've always liked Fallout leveling and skill/perk system better than in Elder Scrolls, so hopefully they'll keep that system roughly the same as previous Fallouts.

I am hyped for F4 but I'm not pre-order-hyped... though that's mostly because I'm waiting until I get a computer that can run it reasonably well.
