I don't want to clutter the thread, but maybe.

So, it's been close to a decade since I played Warhammer Fantassy, but does any one know what the heck is going on with Age of Sigmar? /tg/ is losing it's shit and from what I've been reading it seems GW has gone absolute madman.

A friend of mine's girlfriend wants to put together an all female RPG group, and apparently my friend reccommended me as the DM since he and I talk about the game all the time and he thought I'd have the experience to handle it. I'd like to do it, but I don't know if I'd have the time. Gotta' see when they want to meet up and how often they want to play.

started listening to the RollPlay show on youtube the other day. On one hand, the DM seems really cool. on the other the game seem to consist primarily on the players desperately trying to fuck everything up as often as they can

Bought the Magic the Gathering board game on a whim while at Walmart today.

Never reeeeeally played MtG's trading card game too much, and I never really played many Tabletop things.

I think it's fun.

Finally had our first session today. Everything went great but the monsters all died way too quickly. I used the CR calculator to try to create encounters of medium difficulty and the party members barely took any scratches. I'll have to beef up the difficulty in the future, but I've got an idea of how much content we'll use in a session and adjust accordingly. I was surprised that the party, including a CHAOTIC NEUTRAL AIN'T GIVE A FUCK guy, were willing to handle a morally grey area (actually just pretty shady) with diplomacy rather than firepower.

There were some fudged rules on both sides, sometimes for simplicity, other times because I'm dumb and didn't realize that someone cast a spell and attacked in the same turn. I'll try to keep an eye out for that later.

Here's a really good guide for creating encounters and calculating CR properly: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nx- ... jBMDg/edit

Also, check out Combat Manager: http://combatmanager.com/

I've got a couple ideas to use this week involving the terrain to boost the difficulty a bit. Last week, without realizing it, I let the party bottleneck a group of enemies so they were forced to fight one at a time. The players weren't doing it on purpose either, they just happened to rush ahead and start fighting in a tiny space.

Also I might end up including random party banter into the story. I implied that the bartender of some tavern used to be an adventurer, and that combined with the wizard baron led one of the players to conclude there was a connection between the two.

There wasn't.

Until now.

I made a world map for this campaign I'm building on the fly. I want to show it off because I think it actually looks cool.

Take me down a peg or three.

That's neat, did you use some sort of specialised program to make that or is it completely custom?

It's Inkarnate, an in-browser map-drawing program. It's in beta and free right now, so r/dnd has been making maps non-stop. Figured I'd try it out and ended up with something I actually am sort of proud of.

If you're asking about some sort of seeding, then no, I drew it completely by hand.

Today was fantastic. We started a little late and the encounters dragged on a bit, so we ended up not getting as far as I thought we would. But the encounters themselves were great. The party was tested, some nearly died (actually I thought I had killed one of them because my head was stuck in 4E for a moment), but in the end they were actually thanking me for making it tougher. I'm also glad that they're continuing to take advantage of the shit I'm making up on the fly. They decided to bait and ambush a pair of displacer beasts that were stalking a village rather than face them head-on. The looks on their faces when I was describing one of these creatures, though.

Fighting a displacer beast, the paladin had serious trouble with her dice, not aided by the fact that the displacement ability automatically imposes disadvantage on attack rolls. One turn, however, when I told her to roll twice, this is what she got: I screamed like a small child.

The holy warrior herself.

I wonder how many times I can keep posting here with no replies.

Anyway, I just created a couple of monster stat blocks from nothing for an upcoming session. I feel like a god.

Three.

I should try a game night or something with my friends. I know at least two are into it.
