Well I'm 2-0 in splatfests so far, that's nice.

Meanwhile I've hit Eternal Sleeping Boi and our splatfest still has another 9 hours left. I'm gonna finish up for now, might play again in another couple hours. It's nice to know that the popular team isn't invincible - and that's important, because from my experiences earlier it seems like Team Sleep was the less popular option.

Surprising, but it's also only the second Splatfest.
...wait so Slides lost?
:shakefist:
Odd since around my fifth match I got on a crazy winning streak...

There were actually 4 splatfests prior to this one: 2 in Japan, 1 in PAL and 1 in the US.

Also oops I totally forgot Splatfest was happening.

Results for the EU splatfest!

Eating won. It was far more popular (67-33 iirc), though Sleeping did have a higher win rate it didn't come out on top.

Roller Coasters won!

It felt right for that to be the case. I got to Roller Coaster Queen rank and my win/loss ratio was about 2 to 1.

It helped that I had a few streaks where I'd play with the same people in a row. Shoutouts to the players named Sarah, pac man, and Goblynking, those were radical matches. We just had such a good unspoken teamwork about us. It was incredibly satisfying.

63 to 37 with win rates of 48 to 52 (screenshot).

Great work, team sleep! Congrats, team obesity! *eats cornflakes angrily*

This was actually the first Splatfest where the popular team lost. I'm surprised that Water Slides were popular though.

Me too! I thought roller coasters would be more popular!

I haven't been on the winning side for a splatfest at all so far. ;w; I think I only got to rank defender as well.

None of the other Splatfests ended like this either, and this is obviously what Kamak was referring to.

The point was that there was no reason to correct Oshalite because it was still the second Splatfest of the region.
There is no need to continue this conversation any further.

The point of the original statement was that out of the 5 (now 6) concluded splatfests worldwide only the roller coasters vs. water slide splatfest didn't have a winner that was also the popular choice. Oshalite was confused since they were only aware there were 2 splatfests so it didn't seem to be that strange an observation to them. People informed them that I meant worldwide and others posted, clarifying that Oshalite meant North American splatfests which everyone helping Oshalite understand what I meant knew Oshalite was saying to begin with.

I apologize for not being clear beforehand but this isn't people ganging up on people for being confused about 2 vs. 5 splatfest results.

It's really not that big a deal, lol.

Onto similar but more data-related matters, the main thing about splatfest right now is that the highest percentage a team has gotten for wins was 55% which gives them a 20 point buffer against popularity. However, popularity tends to skew more towards a 60-40 split, with the highest percent being 67% giving a 34 point lead over the opponents. The only way for the opponents to beat the popularity in that case is to score a 59% win, which so far seems pretty unlikely. Even a 60% popularity means that a 55% win rate is needed to break even, which is the highest a team has gotten so far.

Really, teams are pretty evenly matched. For every good player on either team there's going to be at least one bad player. Skill in Splatfest isn't going to be a runaway percentage.

Popularity is too strong a stat in splatfest for the choices offered. I'm willing to bet the reason the slides vs. coasters went the way it did was because people didn't have strong feelings either way and there wasn't a default choice for them (Japan loves rice and Americans tend to have more dogs as pets than cats). It was the most even splatfest in terms of popularity.

Hopefully future choices in splatfests will resemble slides vs. coasters. Otherwise they really need to revise how popularity factors into it considering the 55% wins could very well be a hard wall to cross.
