Hell, if I was in their shoes, I'd probably riot along with them. If life is just going to suck no matter what you do, why should you follow society's demands?

Well of course people rioted. They were mad. They were sick of the same treatment, day after day, month after month.. decade after decade.
I don't agree with the destruction, but I perfectly understand why they're mad.

So the weather is actively attempting to destroy Kentucky. I can't really blame it, but I happen to be here right now so it's relevant to my interests.

Here's a short way down the road from me!

Image

Fun times! We had like four inches of rain in under 25 minutes. I was at work and spent the entire duration of the storm mopping up water as it leaked in under the doors. Yay! Also the wind was fucking nuts.

11 people still missing (2 are children), 1 person confirmed dead, 1 suspected.
The water went from normal creek/river levels to GONNA FUCK YOU UP levels so quickly that they were doing water rescues to get people out of trees.

A house floated away and smashed against a bridge. The whole house (full disclosure: it was a trailer, they aren't usually rooted to anything).

Entire houses destroyed, tons of cars ruined.

More storms tonight, and more tomorrow! I know i sound like an emotionally dead asshole but floods are my favorite natural disaster. Water is awesome.

Shit, it's been raining constantly here too, but nothing that bad. Hope it doesn't decide to come here.

Arizona 2: Shittastic Boogaloo

Doesn't California have a pretty varied climate and terrain? Surely the drought isn't effecting the entire state? I realyl don't know, tbh.

But sure, you are welcome to at least 3 of the 4 inches of rain we get in under half an hour.

it's mostly affecting norcal afaik, but that's where all the diversity in climate is

and it seems to be very slowly turning into HOT

we've lost all our snowpack recently as well, so to actually recover from this drought, we need a lot of snow and a lot of rain for several years

eesh, that doesn't sound good. :/

We had the coldest, snowiest winter on record last winter here. Temps hit -29 F one night. And now this ridiculous, previously unheard of summer rainfall.

I am going to say climate change due to carbon emissions. I turn into Al Gore when I drink.

Carbon emissions = climate change = California getting dried out while Kentucky gets drowned/frozen (depending on the time of year)

The President of the United States reached a landmark nuclear weapons deal with Iran.

That's pretty poorly-worded and remarkably lacking sources and context. You almost make it sound like the US gave Iran a bomb or two, heh.

Iran, World Powers reach nuclear deal
The sanctions on Iran will be removed in exchange for their engagement to not produce or research nuclear weapons, and they will be monitored to make sure they respect this engagement. They will however be able to improve their civilian nuclear program.

Assuming that nuclear program stays civilian, I'm overjoyed. The world needs more nuclear power and the Iranian economy could probably do with a bit of power.
I wish other countries wised up and started developing it more.

In other unrelated news, New Horizon just passed Pluto! It will start transmitting the images and data soon at 1-4Kbit/s (less than a phone modem). The transmission will apparently take about 16 months to complete. I'm hoping for some really awesome pictures now :science:

The pictures released over the past few weeks have been getting steadily more impressive. My avatar is a gif showing Pluto's rotation sent by the probe back in May, and this was released by NASA today.
