Wow, way to completely misinterpret everything I said. At no point did I say you can't be a part of two cultures. However, falsely claiming to belong to a race or cultire you don't belong to is wrong.

Which is completely different from gender because, again, IT'S A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT. Whar constitutes male and female gender roles is entirely based on how society traditionally views them.

You said you were asking out of honest curiosity and I answered because I thought you wanted to learn something, not make this into who's right and who's wrong. Now you're making this into an argument, so you can cut that shit out right now or not post in this thread.

So help me god, I will pull this thread over and we will turn right back around.

You are free to disagree. Just don't be a shit about it. Anyone. However, that being said, this is a support thread, so maybe save that particular type of disagreement for elsewhere. That way it doesn't devolve into destructive arguing.

This would be a better topic for the Taboo thread.

I don't really get what people have against the term "cisgender". Isn't it bodaciously just the gender equivalent of calling someone "straight"? As far as I know it's there to help remove the idea that one thing is the "default" when it's not. Growing up basically being taught that straight is the "default" is the reason I struggled to come to terms with my sexuality for the longest time. :[ Shit's bad yo.

Probably because there's still plenty of people who think queer people are just trying to be special snowflakes :/

What I want to know is why those people think having actual terms to describe how we feel is attacking them in any way. Kinda like how why everyone in my parents' church thinks that two women being able to get married is going to affect them and their lives in any way possible outside of MAYBE some mild discomfort when/if they decide to show pda.

i still don't know if i like or hate that i ended up marrying a guy, because on one hand i don't have to deal with any of the idiocy associated with being gay, on the other hand i feel like i can never understand the issues and struggle of other queer people. i also feel really weird about pride stuff too because my all appearances i'm straight and i really really overthink stuff :D

It's because most people I've seen are exposed to the term of cisgender in a context where a trans person is angry for some reason so they just use the anger as context and assume it's an insult.

Exclusivity, my dear fellow. See, humans have this weird psychological glitch where they think that for every person that are given the same rights as them, said rights are somehow "dilluted", like the group is somehow weakened the bigger it gets. You can see the same pattern in daisies near every other "exclusive" community around, everyone is terrified of losing that feeling of being special.

I find that a very valuable lesson. People dont actually have any basis for their ideas of superiority, they just want to feel like theyre better than eveyone else without having to provide anything. So remember kids, 99% of everyone you will ever meet are just selfish garbage kept alive by their own hubris

Out of honest curiosity, what would you say are the distinctions between the two?

The distinctions being an appropriation of a collective cultural history of a minority and the other is having a personal aspect of yourself that is defined as a personal identity one experiences and identifies with. So yeah. Not even freaking close.

There are so many gay and bi people in Japan but none of them are guys. I'm so upset.

Kamak, sitting in a gay bar, drowning in women. Sighing, he downs the rest of his drink.

I don't know what city you are in, but you could try googling gay bars and other hotspots, or find the English-speaking forum online dedicated to that city that I guarantee exists and see if you can find any information on there?

You don't even need a forum, you can just download YikYak on your phone if you have a smartphone and ask about gay bars there. From my peeking at Tokyo's YikYak it seems as though Japan hasn't discovered it yet, since every post and reply is in English.

Okay, this is a dumb question, but what does the "cis-" prefix mean? I hadn't seen or heard it before someone posted it in this thread. Being a heterosexual person who hasn't had much contact with people who aren't, it might be understandable why I haven'tl

cis means 'on the same side of' and it basically just means that the gender you identify as is the same as your sex/assigned gender at birth. at least in this context.
