it's cool, everybody has shit that gives them trouble. Despite this being the second game where I can fight him I still sometimes have problems with the rathalos

And now I believe all I have left is to finish a couple armor sets, do the Kirin quest, and finish my last two 3-star Gathering Hall quests, and I'm ready for High Rank.

Well, High Rank is filled with subspecies of monsters that will positively tear you a new asshole (cough cough PANK Rathian cough) if you don't know what to expect, all your fancy shmancy rare 3 armors and weapons becomes the new equivalent of rare 0, and there's a version of the asshole Mohran in High Rank you have to do for materials.

Oh, and Mohran is the urgent for getting into High Rank. Have fun!

This is the first time I've died to a monster, twic in fact. Is the Khezu supposed to be this big of a pain? I was thinking about using a Bow to grind it instead of a Gunlance. But should I use a lbg or a hbg instead?

Oh, yeah, everybody hates Khezu. They're assholes. But once you learn their tells and their weakness, you'll only groan a little when you have to fight one for another quest.

Hint: They glow blue if they're going for round two of their electric shield attack thingy. And they sniff around before sticking their gross stretchy neck out.

G-rank Khezu really gave me a shock with one of its new attacks. Pun intended.
After it does the first thunder shield it lets out a MUCH larger aura in a six-way "beam".

Though I gotta say after the annoyance of fighting them on Monster Hunter Freedom with no way to hit them while they're on the ceiling unless you used a bowgun, being able to chase them up the wall is so fun, like when we first got to dive after the Plesioth on 3 Ultimate.

And I really need to up my hammer collection, I've still only got the Matraca Hammer+.

Also, G-rank Basarios. Is too cute. It runs, trips and rolls over you. At least the Ruby one does.

Ah man yeah, I had the biggest issue with it running up and down the walls and ceiling for the first half of the fight before it started running away. I haven't gotten the tells down I keep running head into it's second aura, or dodging into the thunder ball on accident.

Kirin died in like ten minutes to my blastblight hammer. This thing is too good.

And now I begin the arduous task of getting his guild quest.

FURRU VOLTAGE....is still a ways off. Man I need those electro sacs badly, maybe I should go with a red devil smasher for the time being, I dunno.

I like calling it Karen instead of Kirin because it makes getting hit with thunderblight over and over again a lot more bearable.

Also I was lead to believe getting that guild quest would be a pain in the booty and I got it after like three tries at a Garuga quest.

OK, so at the end of the day, when I'm not raging at this game and having fun, the one thing that has always irked me is the goddamn dodge mechanic. You can't dodge in any direction, particularly directly behind whichever direction you're currently facing, which really fucks me up when I'm trying dodge something like Garuga's backflip after it roars, and I end up dodging directly into it. It just causes a lot of unnecessary frustration when I know exactly how to avoid getting hurt and I can't because the game doesn't allot enough time to 180 yourself and THEN dodge, so I have to HOPE the game will let me dodge the way I want.

Is this exclusively a hammer problem or is this pretty universal?

Each weapon, except Lance, Gunlance, Bow and Dual Blades have the same dodge restrictions.
You can only dodge either forward or to the side after an attack.
Lances can't dodge forward, Dual Blades have a unique dodge in Archdemon mode, Bows can dodge any direction.

Some weapons have dodges mixed with attacks.
Longsword X+A can dodge to the side or backwards.
Sword and Shield Back+A after an attack jumps back, then jumps forwards.
Insect Glaive Back+A does a somersault (I think?) which jumps you backwards.


Also, if you're trying to dodge an attack but haven't done an attack yourself, remember to press the dodge button after you've input your direction, not at the same time as the direction.

Dodging is always a pain for me too, I kind of have that dark souls rolling in minds and I end up not timing my attacks well
