C'mon guys, they're not trying to shoot anyone in the foot here. Everything they're offering are options, first with the two versions of the game being of different styles of Fire Emblem and then with the different difficulties. If you a person wants to play on Super Easy Hoshido Phoenix Mode, that's their call. More people playing Fire Emblem isn't a bad thing; it means that, hopefully, we're going to keep getting Fire Emblem games. If they're going to keep giving options for more people to enjoy the series, I'm all for that.

That's finr.

But they didn't talk sbout removing weapon durability like that was an option. Attractibg new people is cool but removing staples like that seems crazy to me.

I think this comic explains this whole item conserving business very well.

But now how will I have to deal with choosing the vulnery to throw away?

You just throw away your full use iron weapons, it's the best course of action to make sure you get those 5 stars in survival.

Phoenix mode: Casual mode was already a really solid appeal to newcomers and anything to further trivialize the game seems unnecessary, but it's no real matter, as long as they don't drop the harder difficulties in favor of easier ones

I'm unhappy about the removal of item durability, it's not an outdated feature, it's always been an important part of inventory and cheddar management, as well as your battle tactics

It'll be interesting to see how things will work without it, I suppose

with the infinite durability they'll probably nerf some of the more powerful items that had low durability such as the killer weapons and the levin sword. I like the durability system but now that it's gone maybe your cheddar will go towards something else.

Item durability was never really a feature to me. It just meant I was always using Steel Weapons and spending cheddar to buy dozens of new ones, never ever using the high end stuff a la Katie's comic. I've only played a handful of FE games but in every one I played it never became a factor at all. On harder difficulties, sure, it probably matters, but in the standard game you can beat everything with the weakest weapons, so there's no reason to fret over the stronger weapon's weaker durability.

They could make do without durability if they changed how weapons were acquired. Remove shops (or limit access to shops) and have equipment be acquired only in the form of treasure chests and prizes from beating bosses and tough enemies. Suddenly you only have 3-5 Silver weapons, 10 Steel, and the rest Iron/Bronze. Now the choice is which units get which equipment; who gets to hold your 1 Levin Sword? Is it worth fighting that guy, who might kill one of your units, to get that sweet weapon he has?

I for one am going to assume that the devs have at least thought this out more than "Let's needlessly pander" as a rationale for the change.

Basically the same here, except I tend to play and conserve by the funds rank, so I'll use weapons like Armads and unlimited use weapons, as they are either treasure or don't count as burning cash.

It'd be nice for FE14's Nohr mode to have some sort of ranking system again, where they judged on turn count, experience, cheddar/funds, and survival.

You can build your own town and pet your waifu in the new Fire Emblem game.

Before watching the video:

Me: That must be an exaggeration. He's just making fun of the whole waifu thing. There's no way they would have you bodaciously pet your waifu (or husbando).

After watching the video:

Me: ...Oh. Oh no.

I hate the fighter girl, shes so slim and barely clothed for someone whos going to be a berserker. I was really hoping she would have a body type like Malice from Mystery of the Emblem.

Honestly, none of the DS Fire Emblems have really done it for me. Shadow Dragon was ugly as hell and the only reason I even managed to beat it was because I spent bodaciously 200+ turns arena grinding at one point, and I couldn't really get into Awakening gameplay-wise for some reason, even though I liked the characters. Nothing about this new title is appealing to me either, so I'm probably just going to stick to replaying the nice and easy GBA titles every so often.

Though I wouldn't mind giving Ike's games a try, if mostly because in one of them there's an adorable knight who not only has the same name as (and just overall reminds me of) my girlfriend, but who also is a knight and therefore my favourite class. Image

Looks like Severa moved to Nohr under a new name.

Meg is awesome if you understand while class wise shes a knight, but her growths are myrmidon like. She needs a little extra effort but shes ends up being worth it
