The people demanded, and Princess Rinoko delivers.

General thread for LGBTQA topics so we don't have a new thread every time we get a new girly girl or manly gay boy.

Representing the B. I like all kinds of parts, but especially yer bums. (°ل͜°)

Thanks to Kira and Marcato for being the super brave ladies who came out to everyone, started the LGBTQ discussion on AZ, and kindly allowed use of their threads for 1-2 pages of unrelated discussion. Yay!

I am the G. Soon when we have all of the letters we can summon our Mega Zord and crush the enemies, ahahahaha.

In the meantime, we need an LGBTQ slumber party with all the boys (and other people, I guess).

Q is for Queer.

I'm not 100% certain what the exact definition of "queer" is, but I assume it's everything that doesn't fall under the other letters? Please correct me if I am wrong!

Kamak is a real G. 8) 8) 8)

I'm down for slumber party. I've always wanted to try Mario Kart DUI with four players.

Usually Queer, sometimes Questioning (like people who aren't sure what they are but might default on cis/hetero/etc.). Probably 3 other words at this point that I can't keep track of.

Pretty much. Some people don't like Queer because it comes across as an "other" bin, some people use Queer for fetishes of straight people or for things like upstanding members of society (I don't see this happen as much in a community setting but???). It's probably one of the most contended letters in the title, but it tends to be there to stem putting a 20 letter acronym to cover everyone (though on another forum I frequented YEARS ago people loved using FABGLITTER as the acronym).

I think Marcato is both the T and the L. So the acronym is complete, we can begin summoning Mega Zord.

Unless, of course, we're going for the much longer acronym, which is (thanks, Google):
Quote:
LGBTTQQIAAP (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, ally, panssexual)

Oh shit, whoops, sorry, I thought you liked them boys. But now we can be lesbian royalty togetherrrr~

And I thought Q stood for Questioning. I do acknowledge that I am potentially very wrong though.

Also in response to Kamak's post addressed to me here:

I'm definitely trying to be my own person and not label myself just based on how I feel like I should be. The best way I can describe myself in terms of gender is that I don't see being born male as the worst thing ever, but I MUCH prefer being female.

But yeah, if I end up not liking wearing makeup or women's clothes, I'm not going to force myself to do it. However, I am also trying to make that decision based on how I feel while wearing those things, rather than how I look outwardly right now. And I do love my girly girl sunglasses because I feel hella cute in them.

Also I prefer feminine pronouns, but I'm not offended or anything by being referred to as "dude" or what have you. Those terms are pretty much gender-neutral at this point anyways.

All I must do is fuse my body with a B and we can be a delicious gay sandwich.

I have bodaciously never once heard this, generally hetero cis people trying to put themselves into the acronym for non-hetero noncis people is met with nothing but scorn and phrases that have been repeated so much out of necessity that they've become a script.

By the by, I much prefer the acronym GSRM for Gender, Sexual, and Romantic Minorities. It includes everyone no matter their identity, plus it leaves no room for cishets (to use a term I hate a lot but flows well in a conversation) to butt in.
Unless of course they try equating sexual kinks to an orientation in which case you can catch them in that line of thinking and ask why they think our identities are equal to what gets their rocks off.

(i have a lot of Angry Queer Feelings that i can't express most other places so i might come across as kind of hotheaded)

I used to identify as bi but I think queer fits me so much better because bi and pan imply equal attraction whereas I am very very definitely more attracted to men than anyone else.

EDIT: Also in regards to my gender identity I'm like, cis but I don't care? I'm definitely a cis man but gender norms are bullshit and if I want to put on this mascara I totally will.
Also confusing people at work and watching them stumble after saying "ma'am," "miss," and especially "honey/babe" is fucking astounding to witness. The more flustered you are the more powerful I become.

Nah, man! Bi people are all about the Kinsey Scale! When a bi person meets a bi person, "What's your Kinsey score?" almost always comes up. I think it's less 'scientific' and more 'fun' at this point, though. Not a lot of bi and pan people are 50/50 for men/women. Not trying to say "YOU'RE WRONG HERE IS WHY" (because I hate it when people do that), just putting it out there that the majority of bi/pan people are NOT 50/50.

Sexuality and attraction are hard to sort out. *shrug*

(i have a lot of Angry Queer Feelings that i can't express most other places so i might come across as kind of hotheaded)

The main places I hear this is when people are arguing over "how queer is queer" and the occasional really offputting "I saw a cis guy come to an LGBT meeting saying he was queer but he just had a fetish", which often feel like boogeyman stories, but then again a lot of experiences are semi-ubiquitous and prone to hitting the same tropes. I don't really know how I feel about people using Queer to label themselves for things that might be a bit of a stretch or what does and doesn't belong in Queer. It's kinda not my personal battle to fight and I honestly just kind of shrug at the discussion because it means different things to different people.

I do kinda dislike the general inclination to outright shunt discussion of Ally being a part of the acronym. While I understand that cishets (which I also agree is kind of an annoying and inflammatory term) "don't need to be a part of the arconyms to be a part of the group, and forcing it into the acronym takes the focus off of the people the group is supposed to focus on for backpats", in my area, it seems that not having A in the name is grounds for being rude and exclusionary for people coming for information and how they can help. I get it, cishet individuals can be draining, idealistic, ignorant, and/or rude, but I feel that when Allies are shunted off it makes things harder to progress. The LGBT community has enough infighting as it is to where adding cishets who at least want to contribute won't make things inherently worse, and my experiences with the local LGBT communities when I identified as an Ally and later Questioning in the past still has left me not wanting anything to do with those specific branches and groups, and I can only imagine how other potential allies might have felt dealing with this sort of roadblock.

In a perfect world, for me, Ally WOULDN'T be part of the acronym, but people would still be welcoming to allies and at least try to be helpful to those willing to take that first step.
