I can't parse the latter reasoning... If you can't recognize the female protagonist of a Cockfighting Society game, you're probably not going to recognize the male protagonist of a Cockfighting Society game. It may as well have been a random person.

I assumed she played the male character because the female is always pretty sexualized (in the games where you can't customize your trainer). Short shorts, crop tops, etc.
