So, how's everyone's take on Xenoblade? I'm super hyped for X.

Completed it twice since I owned it. Love this game and it's open worldness, though I tend to get sidetracked easily by the sidequests, leaving me somewhat overpowered later on. I really should do a no sidequest run or something where I just purely focus on completing the game.

You can never really get tired of the music, either.

I still haven't beat the game since I first got it. I'm too busy trying to do as many sidequests as I can before the final boss.

X's combat system reminds me of Dragon Age Origins for some reason. Can't exactly put my finger on why

I'm waiting to see if Nintendo will release a Xenoblade Chronicles themed 3DS with the release of the game, til' then, I wait patiently to see what unfolds...

And hope for a Shulk Amiibo.

I'll sadly admit, I'm not totally on board with the character designs in X. They look alright for the most part, but something about the faces looks wrong. They look like dolls. And yes, I know the mechs are called dolls. I'm also not too pop flyin' about the muted color palette, but that's just another personal thing; I really loved how bright and colorful Xenoblade was, and it makes me sad to see that this new game is taking the Twilight Princess route with its graphics.

Aside from those minor gripes, though, I love how this world looks. All these landscapes are gorgeous, unique, and wonderfully alien, the monsters look amazing, and exploring with the Dolls looks like it will be a lot of fun. I don't know much about the combat yet, but if it's like the combat in Xenoblade Chronicles, I'm on board. The combat in that game worked so much better than I expected it to.

Does anyone know if they're bringing back the same composers for X? I'd love to hear more from ACE+ and Manami Kiyota.

So you mixed a bunch of other people's arrangements together

For the record Smooth McGroove's acapella is two beats early.

Hoping worked.

Anyways, 3D has been a fun experience so far, minus the level 70 monsters at the start of the freaking game. I like how it doesn't really punish you much for dying, and really, I only hope not to die because these characters are surprisingly enjoyable. Reyn isn't that smart, but he has a strong heart and a good mind on him, Shulk is curious and loves machinery, and Sharla is really protective well...she fires healing bullets, that's instantly an awesome thing in my book. I can't wait to see who else I'll get on this adventure and how they'll act towards eachother.

Bloody nice to see some actual attempt at character development in a video game that intertwines with the gameplay.

I started playing Chronicles just yesterday. Reyn is my favorite so far. I also like how having less armor on makes a character more agile but lowers defense, very D&D-esque

Makes cutscenes a little awkward though

nobody forced you to play the game naked shoolis

dunno if you'll have seen it yet but one neat feature is that in flashbacks to previous cutscenes the game remembers what you had equipped

X's music is by hiroyuki sawano so it's full of weird german singing and awkward rap

watched a stream of X for a bit earlier, definitely not big on the muddier colours (and the low quality stream didn't help)

the combat on foot seems largely the same, didn't see any robot action

swimsuits are back

Does anyone here actually care that much about the localization name changes in X

Some people are complaining that it ruins the original designer's concept and how the Japanese names relate to the story but I think that's a load of shit and people just don't like change

do not read this actual real spoiler if you don't want to be spoiled on X's story

the player character is a robot no different to the big robots you pilot, that's why people feel it's important than the name "doll" is maintained.

It shows that the localization team might be quite irresponsible and stupid, that's why people are harping on about that particular example.

They're scared that further aspects of the game might be changed (namely risqué outfits mostly) from what they already know they want, of course they don't like change.

I hope nothing is changed because otherwise it will be hard to talk about it without the same fucking argument every censored game has around it.

"they took the tiddies away I am upset"
"you are a bad person for wanting tiddies you pervert who cares lol"
"it's censorship"
"whatever nerd lol"

repeat forever a la bravely default

Shit, I read that, why did I read it god dang it god dang it. How is that information even out? The game's not even released yet.

Anyway, they changed the name from Dolls because, in Japanese, the word "doll" has a connotation like "lifeless object one can use as a tool or influence" (like we would use the word "puppet" in English), whereas in English "doll" has the connotation of "humanoid-shaped toy, usually for girls."

There are lots of instances where the word doll was used in Japanese and it was changed to something else later in localization.

The Japanese connotation is interesting but is lost on anyone not knowing that information. So I was fully expecting the name to be changed from the get-go. I'm more surprised that they waited this long to say anything; had they given a localized name sooner I don't think people would be as upset.

Also, "skells" is a cooler name because in the recent Treehouse footage they implied that it was short for "exoskeleton," which is awesome.
