Never played Monster Hunter before, wanted to go pick up MH4U because I'm interested and I heard this one is a good one to start on.

Went to Wal-Mart and they were out. DAMMIT.

Swallowed my pride and went to GameStop and they were out. DAMMIT.

I don't want to digitally download it. DAMMIT.

digital download actually gets you the 3DS menu theme for free, so from the perspective of what you buy, the digital download gets you more for the same amount of cheddar.

Personally I get the physical copy when available just because I like to have something to put on the shelf.

Gore can you please stop kicking my booty...no ok. Time to just "get good." Your rage mode is still bullshit at times though.

Also dammit Najarala! Drop your parts so I can get your fancy armor! At least making his Switch Axe wasn't too bad.

Finally beat Gravios. He's not even that hard, just really fucking tedious and boring and I ran out of cool drinks one time. Gore Magala was way tougher for me.

Joke's on him, though. I remembered I had a water lance, wiped the floor with him after that. But I'm still a couple wings short of the full armour set... I'll have to have a rematch, I think.

Yeah, Gravios is probably my least favorite of the monsters I've fought so far. His attacks are really easy to dodge but he just has an obnoxious amount of defense. It's a very unfun design.

All winged wyverns are just a bore and a drain to fight. A lot of them have a lack of any real tells before their attacks, and half the time they'll just spam their charge constantly. Some of them, like Gore/Shigeru Miyamoto are more unique and pretty fun but all in all they're just reskins of each other.

Which, like, you could argue is good game design and even the point of these games in particular, but the movesets they have are just so BORING and SIMPLE. It's not like Zinogre, who's got a TON of shit that NOTHING ELSE DOES and he's always active and fighting, or Nerscyllia, where you have to plan out where you want to be vertically and have to deal with her changes in moveset from that, or Seltas Queen where you have to deal with two fuckers at once always and they'll combine their attacks and whatnot.

Wyverns are just fucking dragons. They do dragon things. They fly sometimes. They bite. They'll run. None of these things have particularly fantastic AI behind them either, watched the Frenzy Tigrex give a wall the business for a solid minute because I guess he really didn't like that one particular wall.

It's just the fodder of the game. Not particularly fun to fight, not particularly difficult, just something to get through when you have to.

I have a fondness for fighting Rathian. Yeah she charges a bunch, but I can't get over her backflips. Rathios on the other hand is annoying, flying bastard.

Least favorite thing to fight so far is Gypceros, but I haven't fought a Gravios yet so that will probably change soon.

Man, Zamtrios has got to be the weirdest monster I've encountered so far.

I mean, he looks pretty cool when you first meet him...



...until he swells up.

gotta upgrade my c. blade, then start on the path to eventually getting gargua armor

unfortunately my c. blade requires shigeru miyamoto plates and they have a total drop rate of like 7% so wheeeee guess i'm fighting a shiny dragon forever

Also, maining four different weapons is very part-intensive

I'm only switching between two: lance and gunlance. I've played around with some others and I'll probably want to upgrade a long blade and a swaxe at some point (and maybe a heavy bowgun for playing with friends), but those two will do me for now.

As for actual huntin, a friend took me on a hunt last night and we fought some Nerscylla. daisies I hate spiders but now I'm gonna have to fight it a bunch cause I need the armor.

Just recently started guild hall stuff, its fun watching others fall for Gypceros's feign death.
