I was hoping the pair-up mechanic wouldn't persist, but alas

Wait, what's wrong with the pairing system?

I think some people didn't like it because it made the game really easy in some ways. A paired up S-rank couple is basically unbeatable, constantly blocking and adding to each other's hits.

You could also use it to shield your weak characters, like healers, when a scary enemy unit was nearby, which made the trade off of "Do I bring a healer and risk having them die, or do I trust that my other guys can handle it and be screwed when they can't?" less iffy.

Personally I liked it for the thematic reasons (it really feels like your characters are actually working together as a cohesive army, besides the whole romance angle) as well as giving me options for making grinding weaklings less tedious. I tended to not overuse it, though, since pairing everyone up effectively halved your number of units on the field, and sometimes you need numbers rather than raw DPS.

I bet there'll be a demon behind an aggressive country invading a peaceful country

Fuck Chin, spoilers?!

Seriously though, I'm really excited about this. I enjoyed Awakening a ton and had been thinking of replaying it, so this is really even better. I hope there'll be a connection with the last game.

I doubt they'd make a connection with Awakening so quickly, though I did notice a couple of units had some resemblance to past characters (Sully/Cordelia/Miledy, Ninian, etc).

But from what I've heard, it's a Japan vs. Europe style in terms of armies, and the main lord seems to be customizable. But it's all speculation as of now.

All it really needs is Hector DLC, or else someone's getting shot. With an axe.

I would like if they brought back support elements, I think that a little more depth to the supports beyond "I want these two characters to facebattle" or "I GOTTA MIN/MAX THIS FUTURE BABBY" made them more fun.

I just like the sick Japanese spell tags as magic foci over books.

And I'm not super versed in all the FE games, but has there ever been a mage Lord before?

There has been one Mage lord, I think, Micaiah from Radiant Dawn. But she had a reputation for sucking. Dancer lord is pretty interesting, I've always liked dancers for their tactical advantage and high evade (Ninian descendant plz).
Also, I'm pretty sure the pair up system is getting nerfed, they must have recognized it breaks the game, as well as infinite second seals, like the Luna tome back in FE7.

Micaiah wasn't bad per se, you just had to grind her to oblivion so she could play with the big boys and the first act of radiant dawn is the worst place for any unit ever to level grind

The entire Dawn Brigade was a bit lackluster. It's not that they were bad, it's just that the other armies was better than them. Also your leader being a squishy spell caster didn't help much. But hey, at least they got Jill.

So, from what we've seen online, it's practically confirmed there will be a new MU. Thoughts?

If there actually is though, I think it should just have as many reclass options as FE12, so you start as lord, but you can reclass into archer, mage, or cavalier, and if you're a boy, you also can do mercenary, knight, and fighter, and if you're a girl, you can do myrmidon or pegasus knight, or something like that. No crazy reclasses like pirate or brigand or wyvern rider or something.

I'm almost ready to do the last few chapters in Awakening after I decided to make my prepromoted units stop being shitty. Just gotta level everybody up to take on Aversa and her whatever the fuck you call it gang with all the Brave weapons.

ive been doing another playthrough of Awakening where im trying to make the most op characters buy grinding.
The best one is Brady classed as a War Monk with Donnel as father.
His stats are
str 39
mag 42
skill 39
spd 41
luck 52 (thank you brady XD )
def 37
res 45

With Miracle Lifetaker Renewal Sol and Armsthrift
His 52 luck means weapons never break and he regens 80% of his health plus half of the damage he deals every turn, and a 50% chance of not dying to a lethal hit

I also learned Morgan is the only person in the game that can get all three weapon "faire" abilities (unfortunately to late to do it myself) I wanted to make a great knight that had all three faire plus ignis and armthrift to fight using boltaxe levin sword and shockstick :(
