I think the Starfox characters were supposed to have prosthetic legs originally, but I hear they retconned that or something.

Samus has every right to be confused.

Well, if the prosthetics got retconned, I can only assume it employs some type of 'bag of holding' effect on the boots, wherein the inside is 'larger' than the outside, allowing for the legs to fit comfortably, regardless of shape. Or, y'know, it's just a video game. One or the other.

Fox and Falco have metal legs in Melee which could explain some of their hitboxes.

Obnosim and I posted the topic at the same time. THIS IS SO AWKWARD. Though, I didn't see Obnosim's until I refreshed the forum after posting mine. I'm a niiiiiiinjaaaaaaa.

The prosthetic legs idea got removed because it seemed a little dark (God forbid a video game even get slightly edgy), but if you look at some of the character models, you can find one where Fox has no shoes and they look to be pretty human in skeletal structure. Although, I don't consider the new ones cannon because the old ones make more sense: "They use prosthetic legs to prevent blood loss from the G-force of the starships". I don't know how they explain how they do it in the new ones.

Come to think of it, Krystal in her Starfox Adventures appearance had rather human-esque feet with sandals worn over them.

She also has some weird half-shin brace things.



I've got it! As they grow from infancy, Lylatian children of the non-Monkey variety have to wear shaped braces on their legs so that they can reshape their feet over time to fit into their shoes!

That, or amputate and replace.

Yay.

Digitigrade boots would prevent a lot of crippling foot problems that Fox would otherwise develop later in life.

And

well, pilots use to cut off their legs cause rapid atmospheric pressure changes would cause the blood to rush to your feet. So people figured that the best thing to do was cut the darn things off. But that was before they figured out that really tights shoes did the job just as fine.
