I own the game on Steam via a bundle but I never played it, mostly because it was still in early access.

But really, today's young adults should know better than anybody that whatever you put on the internet is there forever and can be held against you.

See this is what I don't understand. GamerGate cares immensely when an big news site like Kotaku does something shitty, but doesn't care when Youtubers are being paid to promote a game, in the exact same way many people accuse Kotaku and Polygon of being sellouts?

Well, that very same article uses TotalBiscuit as a starting point, and he is one of the profilic proponents of Gamer Gate, so the premise of the article is a little weird to me. I also saw plenty of people rustled off at this when TB first revealed this over a month ago. On the other hand, it didn't came as a shock to many others, myself included. Why would youtubers be magically exempt from the industry's corruptive tendrils?

There is an important distinction to make here though. An LPer who doesn't claim to be an objective critic or journalist getting paid to promote a game, isn't breaking any ethical code. LPers pretty much survive by the good graces of publishers holding off copyright claims, so this is a pretty logical evolution.

The usual news sites are attempting to point out how "progressive" OverWatch's character roster is when tons of games have already beat them to it.

Article wrote:
This bizarre blindness towards older games, especially those of Japanese origin, is increasingly beginning to grate; as much of this ground has been very adequately covered before.

Gaming is a cross cultural medium and ignorance of its history, likely in a clumsy attempt at rewriting it, is something that should be diligently highlighted. Ignoring gaming’s past also means we are unable to learn from its mistakes and successes.

Is it really just old games being overlooked though? I'd consider Dota 2's roster just as varied. To be honest neither game really has much variety when it comes to female body types though. So it is a little bewildering to me what exactly the reasoning for these articles is (are there really noteworthy many though? all I see linked is the shittaku one). Here are a few possible reasons I could come up with:

- there is no limit to these people's incompetence
- Activision-Blizzard's marketing is pushing this angle
- there is a pre-existing bias against certain developers, genres or Japanese games.

Somewhat relevant.
Tried to crop out the last two panels (for good reasons) and my phone cut off half of one other panel. Oh well.

Also replace "sans Prime" with "sans Other M"

No clue why that comic would exclude Prime.

Maybe the artist mistook the two games or something
never played Prime but Samus was pretty good in those from what I've heard
Maybe they were considering all the other characters in that series? Samus is still playable, though

A group called Cheshire Cat Studios put out a trio of videos that discuss the current trends and tactics in videogame journalism, how said tactics aren't necessarily new and have been used in the past against other mediums, and how actual research can be used to move past all the arguing and scapegoating.
