Arguments aren't supposed to be "Am not!" "Are too!", so please develop beyond "they are bad" "no they are not bad".

Okay then

Actions of the individual
Loud minority
Overblown assumption

That's about all that's necessary for this argument

Kain pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

I think we're reaching the maximum of how full of shit a single person can be.

Looking beyond vocal minorities, doing research, and participating in debate is how GamerGate can reach a reasonable conclusion. Your approach of treating GamerGate and its participants with contempt and ignoring anything that provides a point of view on them that runs contrary to yours is precisely the reason that it exists and continues to exist.

The anti-GG people showed a long time ago that they don't have the slightest intention of participating in any kind meaningful conversation, they'd rather just keep living on their self-built moral high ground while abusing victim status cards and doing everything they can to discredit and blackmail the opposition.

I just want to play video games. I don't see why these social justice people have to force their things on the industry, I don't see why they can't just not play the games they don't like. I hate a lot of games but I don't go on crusades against them because my opinion differs.

The way that people use their positions of power on game news sites to insult and shame people who make games with content they dislike and write favorable articles and reviews about games from their friends or the people they support on Patreon is unacceptable.

Erik Kain recorded a roundtable with TotalBiscuit, Greg Tito of The Escapist, and Janelle Bonanno of GameFront. One of the options for reform that was discussed is establishing an accountability organization for game journalism.

I'm in support of good journalist ethics, public disclosure of the relations between the reporters and whom they're reporting, true reviews of games in competitions based on the game itself and not their developers, and above all the mutual respect between anyone who enjoys video games. But because of all the threats and judgment from the anti-GG people I just feel so scared to say I'm in support of it. I've seen such a range of things people say about us which go from "misogynistic", to "stupid people who are going to die alone". And the only solace I have to defend myself is the thin thought of "they're wrong" and "it's not aimed at me, it's aimed at white males with unkempt facial hair". Which is terrible, because it makes me realize just what they think GG is all about. But still, I am an easily bruised banana, and will choose to cheer GG on from the side lines and not post about it on Twitter. I don't think I could handle it if people I admired caught wind of what I said and start judging me as a stupid puppet of some obscure male agenda.

Another thing: People always say we need to fix the bad apples in the group who harass and say horrible horrible things to women, but I don't understand how we can do that because we cannot control what people do, especially on the internet. (Plus, I'm not sure if those people harassing were a part of GG, I'm not saying they are not, but I just haven't read a article or any info on them saying they were with GG. Can someone inform me if they said they were?) However, if there is any suggestion to fixing the bad apples of the group, I am hoping to hear them. And I know I'm pretty much whining "but not all of us are like that!", but I don't know how else to explain that I don't want hurtful things to be thrown by anyone or at anybody.

Also, one example of a bridge between GamerGate and Anti-GamerGate being burned was when Brianna Wu didn't show up for an interview with Milo Yiannopoulos. (If you want to listen to it, it's here. This is very distressing because just like the notable advocate for GG named MundaneMatt said, the best thing we can do is to just talk about this situation, whether people are for or against and have a discussion about it. I mean, I'm very open to people's ideas and everything. I can completely sympathize with not wanting to be apart of GG because of death threats, and not wanting to support some sort of hate group. But if there is no discussion between Anti and Pro, it's just a yelling baby fight.

Edit: Wow, I had quite a few errors here and there, I should've previewed this first.. And I kinda realize I was confusing and hypocritical, but in the beginning I meant: I wanna support Gamer Gate, but I'm afraid of hate, and so I won't speak about it on Twitter but on AZ I feel a bit safer, I guess. (Though I know I can still be judged on here, but that's absolutely fine, just no harassment or nonconstructive attacking comments.)

the whole thing seems like two hate groups basically yelling at each other

the gamergate group tends to be the worst side but the people getting overly rustled off and actually attacking it are basically just as bad

Brianna Wu isn't even very good at the whole debating thing when she does show up, as seen in the Huff Post thing with Erik Kain and Hotwheels.

The hard truth is if you want to have a sensible discussion about gaming journalism at this point, you're going to have to avoid using the GamerGate labels. Anytime a debate boils down to Us vs Them you're going to have idiots pick 'sides' and blindly attack the other side and ruin the name of whatever they're standing for. IMO trying to 'reclaim' the name is pointless, better to just have discussion without it.

It seems like that to me too. Although, I'm pretty sure anybody who is a sensible person believes that harassing people is absolutely terrible. However what is perceived as harassment to gaming journalists about disclosure of private stuff by the anti-side, is seen as civil justice by the GamerGate side.
