Personally, I just like shinies if they look cool. Rarity is just a bonus. (But I do feel bad when people get natural shinies that are nullified in rarity by preprogrammed shinies or events)

I agree, if you Masuda'd for a shiny that later becomes an event, I understand why you'd be disappointed, but if you didn't, why should it matter? It's still fun.

(Besides, most of the shinies people have are hacks/generated and those people have no right to complain. I should know, I had a box full of hacked/genned shinies in Black, which I then proceeded to fill with shinies I caught while using Action Replay in Emerald. I really wanted a brown Machop and a blue Voltorb)
