Also, Ruto is one of the sages and a major character from OoT. So what's your beef about her making it into the roster?

The only characters in Hyrule Warriors I actively hate (so far) are Fi and Ruto. I'm sure they'll both be fun and interesting to play as; I still hate them as characters.

Short answer: this explains a small part of the reason I hate her so much.
I don't hate her as much as I hate Fi, Ravio, or Eiji Aonuma, but she's up there.

I actually haven't heard it getting much flak for that. That specific quality certainly doesn't warrant it getting flak.

The difference is that the flak is coming from two different groups. The group angry over Assassin's Creed Unity is composed mainly of women who want to be able to play as a female character in a video game that they like. They wanted to be a bigger part of the game. It doesn't help that instead of just admitting their oversight and apologizing, Ubisoft decided to whine about how women are too haaaaaaard to animate, boo hoo.

The group whining about Hyrule Warriors (though I haven't seen a lot of them, mind) is mostly men who for some reason feel threatened that a video game has more female characters in it than male characters, even though there are still going to be male characters for them to play as.
