So, yeah, everyone has different tastes in videogames. But I got myself all curious... What do the folks here think are the greatest videogames they've ever played?

Ya can give your top 5 (or 6, or 4, or 20), in no particular order should you desire, that way you don't have to get all angsty over trying to decide :P

As for me? My top 5 games of all time are...

1. Cave Story
2. Digimon World
3. Super Mario Brothers 3
4. Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2
5. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
6. Pokemon Red/Blue Versions

I generally consider Cave Story to be the definition of a perfect videogame. I really have never played another game which matches the quality and fun of that game. Digimon World and Trauma Center both make the list, out of being truly unique games, that really are in a genre of their own, and yet were still fun. Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario RPG, it is hard to describe their charm, but they deserve it I figure. And out of all the Pokemon games, I think the originals deserve the most credit, for being truly revolutionary; I still can't figure out how they managed to put that entire humongous game on an original gameboy cartridge.

Topic title should have been 'What are your top five video games?' and then we'll see how many have similar ones.

Since I'm not a fan of ordering, I'll just name them:

Ace Attorney series, particularly Trials and Tribulations
Fire Emblem series, no stand out favorite so far
Halo 2 and the extended universe
Pokemon series, particularly the originals
Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II

I like the Ace Attorney series because it makes you think. When you finally find out contradictions it makes you feel really good about yourself. The last game in the Phoenix Wright arc, Trials and Tribulations is particularly satisfying. I remember reading about Fire Emblem as far back as grade seven, when it was first introduced in an Epic Center column in Nintendo Power. When it finally came out, I instantly fell in love with it. Sure, it makes me want to tear out my spleen in frustration, but it's satisfying when you finally beat a chapter you've had so much trouble with. Halo 2 introduced me to online gaming and made me get an Xbox, the story wasn't that great, but you could play that campaign by yourself or in co-op so many times and you couldn't get bored (somehow). I made some good comrades when I played Halo 2, but now they've all moved on to bigger and better things (read: Halo 3). I couldn't afford an Xbox 360 when it first came out, but Halo 3 doesn't have the same feel as Halo 2, it's too... standard. Halo 2 felt unique (for some reason. The Pokemon series was pretty much my introduction to gaming, so I hold it near and dear to my heart. I may have grown out of it when I got into middle school, but I grew back into it in high school after hearing about all the interesting changes in Generation IV. The Johto remakes should be pretty cool. Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II was my first co-op hack and slash and it really brought two of my friends (and one of their brothers) together. Sure, you'd play the same four levels over and over, but it was still great fun.

Awesome, a massive wall of text.

I've played, and completed, Cave Story quite a few times. And I still can't see where the huge appeal comes from. I mean, its fun, but it's only... average, or so.

Wall of text.

Deus Ex. Pretty much a perfect game in my opinion. The story was interesting, the gameplay was solid, the music was just awesome and the voice-acting was, uh, there.

The World Ends With You. I liked the story (though it was kind of slow at times) and the battle system was fun. I also really liked the difficulty options, even though the game gets way too easy once you max out all your characters, even on Ultimate and Lvl. 1. I wouldn't normally complain about stuff like that, but there's only one save state and I don't want to delete my old one just for the game to be challenging again.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The ocean really didn't bother me at all. The story was okay but the gameplay was great and there's a lot of stuff to discover. I also thought it had a great atmosphere, especially at the very end.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. After some getting used to it, I really enjoyed everything about the game. Funny yet believable characters, a good story, great platforming and intuitive fighting. The last boss was really disappointing though and so were the sequels.

Guess I really only have a Top Four. Doesn't matter, this post's long enough already.

Okami is far and away the best game I've ever played. I honest'y can't find a
major flaw with it, other than controls can get a little iffy at times.

I don't think I could put them in any specific order, but I think some pretty cool games are:

- Beyond Good and Evil
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
- World of Warcraft (and/or WC3)
- The Diablo series
- Hamtaro Ham Ham Heartbreak

I have trouble putting together a list of my favorite games because I'm a huge sucker for great story/atmosphere/writing/plot twists. I'll go ahead and try and make a list anyway.

-Portal (for Story/Atmosphere/Writing)
-Shadow of the Colossus (for atmosphere/music/replayibility)
-Bioshock (For writing/atmosphere)
-Mother 3 (For story/writing)
-...There are probably others I just can't think of right now...

Are you beginning to see a pattern here?

Obviously, I also enjoy the gameplay for the games I've listed, but I personally think it's the story/atmosphere/writing that puts a game ahead of all the rest.

I prefer when games try to stay away from conventional cutscenes, but some games do cutscenes very well.

It's also nice when games have a page get every so often.
