Supports between characters are really good later in the game. Not even just romantic ones (those are the best, though), but between any character. Basically, the higher they are, the more likely you can dodge/block some incoming attacks, and possibly get secondary attacks to finish off a tough enemy before it would kill you.

Really useful later in the game, so working on it some now is good. You don't have to grind or anything, though.

Quick support protip, though: figure out who you're gonna marry to Chrom early and work on their supports. After a certain point in time, he gets auto-married off if he isn't already, and if you're unlucky or unaware (like I was my first time round), he'll end up married to a generic NPC.

oh, I might have to do something about that then because so far all the people he's friendly with are proposed to so idk maybe sumia or w/e will start playing the field then
also: can you get to an 'S' relationship with two different people? Or once you're proposed to - that's it? Oh and do only certain characters have children together? idk i guess as it's my first run if things go wrong it's ok

Well, Sumia is his canon wife. If you watch closely, she's the woman in the intro.

There's only one S rank support allowed per character, but any (first-generation/Avatar) pair that can get to S rank can have kids. If you're trying to get all of the children, make sure you don't accidentally lock one of your female characters out of an S-rank. I did that to Sumia on my first playthrough, which sucked, since her daughter was a total powerhouse in a different save.

I've screwed up so many skill passes to children units. I really wanted to do a Vengeance/Vantage/Wrath combo on my Noire, but I passed counter instead. Which is fine, I guess. I can still do it without wrath, just to a lesser degree.

Got Fire Emblem Awakening for Christmas and I LOOOOOOOVE it. I just wanted to get some input on whether or not people thought some of my pairings were good ideas.

Sumia and Chrom, Donnel and Lissa, Vaike and Sully, Kellam and Cordelia, Lon'qu and Olivia, and Gregor and Cherche.
I'm also thinking of these pairings:
Virion with Maribelle, Ricken with Panne, Libra with Miriel, Stahl with Tharja, and Gaius with Nowi.

No idea who to pair the Avatar up with. I'm thinking Lucina so that their kid can get Aether (if that's possible).

Yeah, I'm not the best at skill inheritance either. Gave my Noire Counter as well, and gave my Severa Ignis, even though she could have gotten it eventually (yes, she was my Avatar's daughter). Should have given her Wrath, or even Despoil (gotta get those monies). Probably a bunch of others, too. Inheritance is difficult and I'm lazy.

I have no idea how skill inheritance is even supposed to work. I find it usually doesn't matter too much.

It really only matters when you either want to make grinding easier (in which case you could pass down Veteran or something with the Avatar's kids) or if you want to pass down a skill the kid can't inherit otherwise (Galeforce for Male Morgan, Owain, Inigo, and Brady is the big one).

Parents pass down the last active skills to their children; this takes effect when you enter the paralogue where you encounter the kid. For example, if you pair up Lissa and Donnel and you want Owain to have Aptitude, you have to remove and equip skills in such a way that Aptitude is on the bottom of Donnel's list of skills. When I first entered Owain's paralogue, Owain had Underdog (which isn't bad, but isn't as good as Aptitude) and Healtouch (which is useless to him). I quit without saving and rearranged Lissa and Donnel's skills, so when I recruited him, he had Miracle and Aptitude.

It's a lot less complicated than it sounds. I'm waiting to enter most of the paralogues until my characters are at much higher levels so I can pass down really good skills. Galeforce for everyone!

So basically they get whatever skills are at the bottom of the list? That's a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Yeah. I was surprised too.

I paired up Gaius with Nowi, and now I have no idea what skill to pass down to Nah. My choices are Locktouch, Movement +1, Lethality, and Pass, all of which are really good skills. Any recommendations?

Just so you know, I'll be reclassing Nah into a Pegasus Knight so that she can get Galeforce.

If she's going to be a peg knight she probably doesn't need Movement +1. I'd go for Lethality or Pass, though again, if she's a peg knight Pass might not be that useful.
