I finished reading An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, by Chris Hadfield. He describes the things that are required of you to be an astronaut, the mindset that helps you prepare yourself, and how it reflects on every goal you set for yourself. Mainly though, he writes about his experiences of becoming an astronaut and the situations he's been in and it's very interesting, especially for those interested in that sort of thing.

I've been reading Dharma Bums by Kerouac and it's good. Not as good as On the Road by any means and it can be kind of pretentious at times but I've always liked the way Kerouac writes so I'm having a good time.

I' m reading a few books right now. I borrowed a clockwork orange off my friend...extremely weird so far. And I'm reading The Great Gatsby so I'll be ahead of my class when it becomes required, and I'm reading some book my school's librarian recommended to me called Rats Saw God. Haven't started it yet, so I have no real idea what it's about.

I also finished Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker about a week ago. I didn't really like it, and the only reason I finished it was because it was a short book.

i finally got a library card for my local library and picked up what i thought was a booklist for an online discussion thing. turns out it was the wrong list, but hey!

i got romeo and juliet, the great gatsby, and the catcher in the rye. additionally, my mom recommended the picture of dorian gray, and im reading that now.

Hey guys, in the book 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" they talk a lot about mercerism, its starting to confuse me a bit, can someone please given me just an easy basic outline of what mercerism is exactly and what its based on? I have a rough idea but I'd like so more info on it.

Quote:
Mercerism is the dominant religion portrayed in this book, and its foundation lies in the the journey of a man named Wilbur Mercer up a mountain, being tormented by onlookers, only to fall down and repeat the process once he reaches the top (a bit like the ancient Greek myth of Sisyphus). Practitioners of Mercerism use a device called an Empathy Box to empathize not only with the journey of Mercer, but with all other users of an Empathy Box, so that the joy or suffering of one contributes to the joy or suffering of all.

Words of Radiance released today. It's slightly bigger than Way of Kings, which was already classified a lethal weapon.

I finished reading Cloud Atlas and some parts were really good (mainly the futuristic parts) whilst others I found quite boring (basically the first short story). I also had to read them fully rather than half-and-half like it was intended because I just found myself forgetting the characters.
Also Blaze by Stephen King is pretty good light reading if you don't want something too heavy (plus I liked the Of Mice and Men idea) but the ending was a bit bad, imo. Or maybe that's just because it didn't go how I wanted it to, haha.

Just ordered I Am Legend, The Road, The Stand, and The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.

Also, I'm working on reading the Song of Ice and Fire series. Only on book one right now. I probably should've waited before ordering the above mentioned books, since I'll want to read them now.

I'm really book hungry for some dystopian future stories. I just finished reading the Birthmarked trilogy, and I thought the first and last books were good, but the second felt like it was rush-written.

I need more dystopian future books, if anyone has read any good ones?
