Not sure if not playing has made me bad at league

or if preseason has made me bad at league

Like seriously, its like I don't know how to jungle anymore. It has a way different feel to it, and tank/gank-reliant junglers do not fare well at all...

You'd be surprised at how many people I've gotten to fall for this in normals, it's hilarious and unbelievable

You're probably in a low tier, lots of new players who are ballsy enough to stand LoL's community.

Remember, only way to beat trolls is to out-troll.

And if you're not too thick-skinned or you realise people are getting to you, bring friends - who will troll with you

Exactly.

Like, League's community is pretty godawful. But there comes a point for me where the game is too fun for those ragers and trolls to even matter. I take it in stride a lot more now, laugh it off. I don't even mute a lot of those trolls anymore, except I still get a little upset when folks start blaming me for everything and being super negative, in which case I mute them as soon as their "criticisms" stop being productive. Which is often very early on.

I do need to try and join you guys in game more often, problem is I'm usually playing with RL friends. Either way I'm still making sure there's at least 1 less troll in game.

So this is a shitty thing.

Edit: Or maybe it's wrong?

Edit: Hum.

I'm sure there's some more complicated stuff than what those articles report and that people are blowing things out of proportion. Maybe there are exceptions.

but either way I'm not surprised. A pro video game player is representing the game itself as well as their team. It's not like other sports where the game just kinda exists or is managed by one major organization, League is a game owned by a company.
If there were some major pro football league in the US other than the NFL, then I'm sure players on NFL teams wouldn't be allowed to publicly promote another league. But LoL actually has competitors in the pro gaming world, naturally they would want to promote their own interests.

Weird that Demigod is on that list. I can't seem to find anyone who plays the game.

It's pretty confirmed at the moment. I think it's a dishonest way of conducting business, and just shows Riot is only in it for the cheddar.

I don't really see how it's dishonest to not want your players to publicly support your direct competition

First off, of the games mentioned (not the ones in the contract) only Dota 2 is a direct competitor. Secondly, Riot wanting to own the players is pretty much what's wrong here. Sure, they pay their salaries, and restricting them from competing in other games or advertising them is one thing, but this is like the NFL or whatever firing a player for playing a friendly game of soccer in their free time (since Riot is so keen to make the comparison to actual sports). Because that's another thing, as far as I understand (correct me if I'm wrong), Riot has nothing to do with a player's personal stream. Again, the situation would be different if they asked the players not to promote other games while on the LCS stream.

More on the side, when this "esports" thing was first budding, there was this idea that there was no need for games to compete with each other for the spotlight, since any way of spreading this idea of "watching videogames competitively" would be good for all games involved. Looking back, that seems quite naive now.

Pretty much every pro player's stream is sponsored by the companies that sponsor their team (and I suppose you could say the team itself? Not sure how that works.). So the streams aren't exactly personal, they're set up with the intention that they're representing their team.

Of course Riot is in it for the cheddar, they're a company, their job is to make cheddar. I'm not going to expect them to do anything otherwise. Even if their primary goal was championing the cause of esports, you do that by bringing in more cheddar through sponsorships.

My question is, is this contract necessary/beneficial? I'm not seeing the benefit, in fact if it causes such a big PR problem it might not be worth it if it did make a difference. The target audience of anything esports is the young, technologically proficient generation that has a history of balking at anything that restricts their freedom of expression, especially on the internet.
I just don't get it. There must be more to the story that we don't know about yet.

Edit: Also, suddenly the league forums are filled with self-proclaimed economy experts. greeeeeat.

On the previous subject of the League community being god awful...
Image

I just got out of this match, during which my Leona support was constantly berating me for "sucking" and "being a shitty ADC," etc (meanwhile I'm going 6/1/2).

... The Leona support who was constantly stockpiling wards without using a single one (only used trinket), stood behind me the entire laning phase instead of helping me farm using her goddamn motherfucking Relic Shield, and was waaaaay too eager to run in to nearly feed the enemy Caitlyn ADC imo (fortunately, she managed to not die in more than one or two trades)

So uh..... yeah, who plays S4 ranked anymore amirite

Edit: she probably Lolking'd me before the match and saw my amazing S3 run, lmao
