I had an insane amount of trouble with that mission my first time. Like, "oh shit pretty much my entire army is dead now" trouble. On Normal Casual... yeah. Needless to say, it was a cakewalk after a couple hours of Risen grinding like the immense wuss I always am in those games. Also, I tried to play a Hard file when I beat the game the first time, but god daisies is Hard really fucking hard. I guess they figured that Normal-Hard-Lunatic(+) was balanced out by the "not dying" option.

On that note, I can't wait until my copy of Path of Radiance finally arrives.

Oh Lunatic. You have no idea how many times I have had to soft reset from people dying. I'm on chapter 2 after about 30 to 50 resets.

I don't even try the high difficulty modes, I play the fire emblem games to play chess, not play Super Soaker vs Bazooka

I just got Awakening yesterday. I'm up to... Chapter Six I think? The one where the masked person's mask comes off for the first time and time shenanigans are hinted at.

Well it really depends - have you ever played a Fire Emblem game before?

Only Sacred Stones. I got stuck somewhere midway through Eirika's route when you have to survive 11 turns.

I'm up to Chapter 9 of Awakening now, and after the previous chapter I kind of want to know how mages can mysteriously float over sand.

Lon'qu for best badass.
He was about to be murdered by a Wyvern Rider, but Vantage kicked in and as he attacked he got a crit.
The rider was still alive an went for the attack, but missed. Lon 'qu goes again and... another crit.

Bye, Wyvern rider.

Sorry for replying late. I think that if you've at least gotten to a decent part in another fire emblem game, you could go classic mode - but hard may be... well, hard. How many people have you lost?

Lon'qu is my favorite myrmidon. He was the first character I intentionally married my avatar off to (the first was Lissa when I had no idea how S Supports worked—I'm alternating avatar genders).

also I think his VA voiced him well so
yeah

Oh wow I didn't know this had a thread unless it was really recent.

Awakening is the first FE game I played so much of, and I really like the whole support system and how it affects how units work together and determines how the kids will be. I think I finally unlocked all the kids of the second generation and I'm going around picking them up from their paralogues. I've only had the game for like 2 weeks and I'm at chapter 19, I can't remember the last time I played through a game so fast! Normal seems a bit easy sometimes, especially when you level grind (which for once I find actually fun in this game), maybe I should up the difficulty next time I start a new file. Or I might just be overleveled lmao

As for favorite character, I find myself favoring Virion a whole lot; his high skill makes using the Killer Bow almost unfair. Though to be honest, I don't think there's a character I don't like at all in the cast. I married Stahl because he's a cutie and recruited Morgan and since he was a cavalier when I found him, I eventually promoted him to a Paladin. Stahl's a bow knight because while he might not have as much skill as Virion, he's still a really fun to use character IMO. My avatar is currently a Dark Flier because GAAAAAALEFOOOOORCE

Donny grew on me a crazy amount because once you hold his hand through a few training sessions and he gets the aptitude skill, his growths are astronomical. I often pair him with Lissa and their son to send off on a 3 person team of destruction. Tharja also grew on me a lot in terms of writing, i find her crush on the avatar almost charming in a kinda creepy way.

Addendum: did anyone actually marry the spotpass paralouge characters (aka the super spoilery ones and ike's great great x???? grandson) ever? because Gangrel's a dick, walhart is........just the last person i'd think of ever having any sort of romance with, aversa is...aversa. I guess Emmryn would be okay, but something about romancing her just feels wrong.

its not like that bothers me too much however because there are plenty of candidates in the form of...basically everyone else in the cast

Well people love marrying Aversa because she gives Morgan Shadowgift and you can hook up your dark flier Morgan with Aversa's night and kill enemies from super far away and haul booty when they get close and get two turns with galeforce.

I need to see a HIMYM/Fire Emblem Awakening crossover. That would be hilarious. Chrom would obviously be Ted, and Femavatar would be the mother, so that Morgan and Lucina can be the kids. Vaike would be Barney for sure.
