I caught a Sheer Force Krabby and expected it to be fairly decent but then I took a look at Kingler's moveset and holy shit it is just not built for Sheer Force it makes me so sad

I love Kingler and I thought I would be able to pull off a really neat set with it

Working on getting a 5 IV Protean Froakie.
Steps:
1) Breed Lapras with my 4 IV Mareep until I got a Male Lapras with perfect HP
Done.
2) Breed male 4 IV Protean Froakie with Ditto until I get a female Protean Froakie
Done.
3) Keep breeding until I get a Protean Froakie that's Timid.
Done.
4) Keep breeding with that Timid Protean Froakie and the other Froakie until I get a Female 4 IV Timid Protean Froakie
5) Breed that one with the Lapras until I get a 5 IV one finally.

So much work just to get 1 extra perfect IV.

What do you mean by 4 IV

I traded with this one guy on the GTS and he's apparently working on getting a team of 6 IV pokemon. How much more difficult would that even be?

what usually happens is that you wind up with two parents that have perfect IV's in all 5 IV's that you care about, so that they're guaranteed all 5 of the major ones if the destiny knot randomizes the last one.

for instance, you'd have these as parents:

Froakie (Female): 31/X/31/31/31/31

Froakie (Male): 31/X/31/31/31/31

You have 1/6th of a chance that attack will be the stat NOT passed on, however, 5/6ths of the time, other stats will be random, so Attack will be guaranteed to not be perfect.

In the event that Attack isn't passed on, it's got a 1/32 chance of being perfect.

This means you've got a 1/192 chance of getting a perfect Pokemon.

However, if you have two perfect Pokemon for parents, it doesn't matter which stat doesn't get passed on because the other 5 are guaranteed to be perfect. This means all that matters is that the random IV is 31, which means it's just a 1/32 chance to get that to happen.

Now, if you're going for a hidden ability aswell, your chances are going to be lower because hidden abilities aren't guaranteed to be passed on. You could get multiple perfect Pokemon with the wrong ability before you get it right.

And don't even get me started on trying for a perfect shiny Pokemon with a hidden ability.
