If you want to sacrifice a caterpie so that you and your friend can both have that level 100 mewtwo, just turn off the power at the right time mid-trade.

Also, Goomy gets counter as an egg move (learned that from an online battle), and I'm close to breeding the perfect goomy with it. Then I'll start working on other pokemon I intended to breed.

Just caught Zygarde in a Premier Ball too. Mewtwo might prove difficult to do like that.

I used to clone stuff all the time, but then cloning my Red Gyarados in Crystal corrupted my game. The emotional devastation stopped me from abusing any glitches from there on out.

If it's like gen 2, you turn off the system that had the pokemon you want cloned. This way it goes back to the save file that had the pokemon, yet the other game finishes the trade and makes a clone.

The caterpie ceases to exist.
