The Avatar, everyone! Our symbol of peace, bringer of hope, keeper of harmony who THREATENS FOLKS WITH DEATH IF SHE DOESN'T GET HER WAY. I mean, I get what she's going through, I know it's rough, but really? "If you take their lives, I'll take yours!"? Threatening to feed a guy to a polar bear dog? Aang is rolling in his grave. PLEASE GOD let the show improve in the next episode or two. This is getting unbearable.

Most of the supporting cast is still okay.

I fucking love how the guy kept wearing the platypus bear suit after his plan succeeded

The Avatar is a keeper of balance foremost. Avatar Kyoshi would have done the same thing and considered it justice. Avatar Roku would have incinerated the ships of the Northern fleet when they refused to leave to stop a repeat of letting an army gain a foothold. Avatar Aang would have told the judge what he was doing would have dire consequences and then would have stuck his head in Appa's mouth while lying about how Air Buffaloes have a "noted taste for flesh" and laughed afterwards. Or he'd have let Sokka do the threatening and played good cop. When the Avatar state is activated it is almost always violent in response, mercy is something the human side of the Avatar does if they so choose to.

I might agree with you on the other two Avatars, but that is definitely not something Aang would do. You know how much he detested the very thought of hurting people.

But he'd have no trouble threatening them if he thought he could trick them into thinking he was dangerous.

Aang never had trouble playing the trickster, like when he teamed up with Katara to make the Fire Nation troops think they were battling the Painted Lady. Korra never caused harm to the judge, she only convinced him that he was in danger.

I wanted a paladin antagonist so badly. I thought Amon was one and I was disappointed. Then you said this new one was a paladin and I got excited again...and now I'm disappointed again.

Well, I'm hoping that it was just some misleading writing in that the whole power thing is a way to get the influence needed to make reparations with the spirits, and it was just conveyed poorly so that we'll be back on track in an episode or two.
But I kind of doubt it.

Do you seriously expect something like that to happen in a show like Avatar? It might be aimed at everyone but they can't show something as violent as that, they need to keep it suitable for kids. Also I personally think that it wouldn't add anything other than pointless senseless violence to the show.
