The girls were in MLP first. At least something like Game Grumps didn't have a female presence to begin with.

MLP was almost SOLELY female presence until recently.

They're getting mad about what's "girls" are doing to Game Grumps, but it's what heretics are doing to MLP, and yet act like they're the victims because girls moved in on MLP and ruined it.

Maybe because she's taking their reasoning and turning it into feminism?

For instance, I know a lot of people were upset about Samus needing permission from Adam to use items in Other M, but that was because it was a stupid plot device, not because it's a man telling a woman what to do. But that's what the writer is arguing.

Most people were rustled at that because it was "Samus being straight-laced with Adam" when she's a kickass "rogue" bounty hunter. It'd kinda be like Master Chief or Commander Shepherd listening to their bosses unquestioningly.

Except, you know, she still probably at least respects the chain of command as a soldier and as a means to not make any unnecessary enemies, and as you said, it's a gameplay mechanic to explain why she has to earn the power ups.
