For all we know Tarquin might have a way of resurrecting Malack.

Im not disliking him because he's a villain, Im disliking him because he's overpowered and irritating. Xykon has access to a certain level of genre awareness as well, but he's stuck so far up his own booty about his superiority that he tends to overlook whats right in front of him. Tarquin has no weakness, which is BORING. Just look at the latest strip. He kills Nale like its nothing at all, just a random asspull to show off further how amazing he is.
This is really my only hang up about the comic right now, but I REALLY hate this character.
Tarquin has no real weaknesses shown
yet, but when the protagonists eventually defeat him that will probably be revealed (that could of course be years from now in webcomic time). Also killing Nale isn't an accomplishment at all, it was a long time coming. Tarquin being the one to do it was done to enforce the idea that he's unempathic and methodological and to imply that he would do the same to Elan if he got in his way.
Also the "chessmaster" cliché doesn't really fit that perfectly, since the pyramid being destroyed was less than ideal for him and he was hoping Nale would yet impress him. Tarquin isn't a strategist because he unrealistically predicts every situation, he is one because he tries to take all eventualities into account.
