Yeah, the whole "entitled to their opinion" doesnt really work when said opinion is racist or homophobic. I mean, yeah obviously they CAN have it, but Im sure as hell not going to accept it, or be tolerant towards them, why should I? Should I keep quiet just to avoid conflict? Oh no, we cant have conflict! NOT ON THE INTERNET!

I don't even know how one can be homophobic by choice? I mean, what are the arguments from them then when you ask about it? Atleast someone religious can say it's bad because it's written in their book of believe, but that's far as it goes.
But I really don't see what's so bad about not liking something, even when it's gay people? I mean, I really really REALLY hate children, but you don't see me shitting at them at all. As long as you keep it to yourself, I say whatever. Maybe there are some who don't even have arguments? Maybe they are just uncomfortable with it, and that's all. I know it's a huge stretch, but I don't know how else to compare it, but lets say it's the same amount of being grossed out by spiders or insects - you just are, you have no arguments. That's why I think it's not really that great when you call every one of them "a piece of trash", there are harmless people out there, you know.

I never said you have to accept it, nor did I say you can't argue with them or discuss it with them. I only said that arguing is often pointless, because you're more than likely not going to change their point of view anyways. However, if someone is really being dumb, of course you should call them out on their bullshit. What I think, if you attack and insult them, you're not really better than them. Always keep it civilized, if you agree with it or not, that's the most important thing.

Some people would tell you that gay will destroy families or family values, or can't raise kids properly. Basically, some people think homosexuals are inferior to heterosexuals.

The difference between not liking spiders and not liking gay people is that some of them are spiders and some of them are people*. Like… Alright, one can say "I don't like gay people but I'm not a dick about it, I keep it to myself", but it's pretty much impossible to completely keep it inside. We all have unconscious ticks and behaviours, and besides these, someone who doesn't like homosexuals will also discriminate towards them at his little personal level. If a "quiet homophobic" found out one of his friends was gay, he'd stop being friendly to him. And, for sure, you can pick who you are and you aren't friend with! However, refusing to be someone's friend only because they're gay is discrimination, no more, no less.
You can say that homophobia is an irrational fear like any other, but it simply isn't: it affects other people in a very negative way and it's dangerous. Insects (and children, as you used this example) don't have their basic rights being put into question by people simply because they don't like them. There is no "don't let insects marry" or "children will destroy American values" campaigns in the streets.
"Comforting" people into their homophobia, whether they're vocal or not about it, simply isn't right, because homophobia isn't right, because it's actively harmful towards fellow human beings.

(*I hope nobody starts about animals having feelings, that's a different story altogether)

Don't mix up the things I'm saying to take out something different out of them. There's a difference between being made uncomfortable by people making out right next to you and thinking "these people are gross because they like the same gender". The second is discrimination, a discrimination that permeates our society, which makes people think it's okay to think like that when it really is not. It's the same as people saying "that's gay" to criticize and then claiming they're not homophobic, it's a passive form of societal homophobia.

I think this entire discussion about a 14-year-old girl's Tumblr post that basically boiled down to "I don't want there to be conflict and people arguing on my Tumblr" (irony) has gone on too long and should be taken to Taboo Topics.

Hearts wasn't the first thing that popped into my head when I read "I'll get fat from eating your black" which makes me feel kind of bad.

At first I was thinking, how could talk about getting fat get into the ratings? Have American parents taken some initiative on obesity?
