I think they're supposed to be magical compasses that work more like Jack Sparrow's compass...or rather, his compass works sort of like these compasses. Or maybe these compasses are just supposed to make treasure chests magically appear on the map, as well as make chimes if you're in a room with a key. Then again, there have been entire games without compasses, and yet we can still get their features.

The Legend of Zelda's compasses are weird.

On another note, I have to wonder if Katie's Links are ever going to stop getting more adorable.

The Goron clearly just polished off some Ore-Os and Lon Lon Milk.

I'm pretty sure it's the inbreeding between all the Links and Zeldas.

Guys, this isn't hard. Treasure chests (and bosses) are magnetic.

I never thought in a million years that katie would EVER do comics on one of my most beloved games I played as a kid. :)

Thanks for showing me that even some modern gen-folks can love the oldies too ^w^

So how does it not break when there's a load of treasure chests in a dungeon? Wouldn't it just be undecided about which one to point to?

From the point you get the compass, it is pulled equally towards all chests in the dungeons, the closer ones being weaker and farther stronger to make up. Link then moves the compass around for a bit to triangulate all the chests in the dungeon.
There now it makes sense.

Is it sad that I joined just to post an unfunny edit?

There are sadder reasons to join. And it wasn't unfunny.

Hopefully I'll remember to occasionally poke my head into the forums and offer more edits.

On a related note, I think I officially love creepers, if only because pixel cleanup was way easier than it was with Link. o3o

There now it makes sense.

But what if Link doesn't have the map yet?

Can't we just say it's magic.
