Which fan specifically? If you're talking about a desktop, then pressurized air is best suited for that.

Does the problem persists if you take the screw back out?

Yes. We tried that and it's the same deal. I was worried that I pinched or severed a cord, but the lack of external video feed is pointing me in a different direction. Thanks for the help!

It's possible, if a bit unlikely, that something shorted out on your video card. Since laptops virtually only have integrated graphics cards (and you'd know if yours didn't) your best bet at a repair is going to be a warranty claim. Even if they refund you instead of fixing it, it's better than being stuck with a laptop that doesn't work.

This is what I was afraid of, but I guess I'll bite the bullet and see about making a claim. Thanks for your help!

Okay so, last night, I had a screw fall out on my laptop that caused the hinge to go all wonky, so I located the screw, put it back in, and everything was fine.

Except now the monitor won't work. When I go to boot up the laptop, the keyboard icons for things like caps lock light up, and the fans run and you can even hear the start up tunes playing, but the monitor remains blank.

I looked up stuff on how to fix it online, and I even opened the hinge part back up to see if a wire got pinched or severed somehow.

The most concerning thing is that the laptop won't export the visuals to an external monitor at all. Which means that it's not just an issue with the monitor, and like this, a fix without seeing anything seems almost completely impossible.

I have the laptop under warranty with a third party service provider that'll take care of it, but doing so will result in at least 2 weeks of it being gone, and I may not get my laptop back (they pay it out if it's too much of a hassle). This is in addition to losing whatever's on the laptop (I won't miss much).

Any ideas on simple things that I can do that might help figure out what to do or how to diagnose it without tampering with the laptop too much?

Most likely, since the monitor became loose from the rest of the laptop body, you pulled at the monitor cable. It has either broken or been disconnected. Warranty claim or open it up and fix it yourself.

Don't open it yourself, you don't have the expertise to fix it and you'll void your warranty.

You've got warranty on it so don't risk damaging it further. Call it a loss, get it fixed, and just wait.

For some reason Steam won't let me launch Dark Souls: Prepare to Die editions. I click play, my steam status changes to "in-game" only for it to revert after a while.

Sounds like the game is failin to launch. First, right click on the game, go to Properties, and then find the verify file integrity option. If this turns up any issues, it'll probably manage to have fixed it. If it doesn't do anything, you'll want to uninstall and then reinstall the game.

That game has its number of issues when it comes to the PC port but I never had that happen, it would usually at least launch and then visibly crash. Try YCobb's suggestion first.

It told me that 1 file had failed to validate (and apparently it counted the game as a single file) but it still doesn't start, I'll try to delete it and download it again
EDIT:Alright, that didn't do anything

Hmmm. Post your specs for starters, I suppose.

Can someone recommend good desktop speakers I can get for around $100?

I've used some $20 Logitech speakers for the past 6 years, and they've worked great and sounded great. I don't think you really need to go that expensive when it comes to speakers unless you're an absolute audiophile.

$100 for any kind of audio equipment isn't even audiophile tier yet. My headphones were 155€ and absolutely worth it.
