My mother was an Orthodontist.

My father was the captain of a Naval submarine. But he has been promoted, and he is now an Ambassador in Afghanistan. He has a Beanie-Baby monkey that my 6 year old sister gave him to take with him. He now takes pictures with him, the monkey, and various Afghani political people, and sends the photos back to us.

Much lulz are had.

My mom works in a family-run bakery. they bake things.

My dad's never worked a day in my life, but he always says that he used to work all the time. so I guess he did something. I think it involved those tiles you put on bathroom walls, but I've never cared enough to ask.

My father owns and runs a successful small business.

My mother oversees the account managers in a plastics company.

Edit: My father works in spectroscopy. Specifically, infrared spectroscopy. With the FTIR Gas Analysis and... I can't explain well. My grandfather worked for a company which my parents just refer to as 'infared'. (my mother actually helped my father make his company; she worked there for quite a while before my father's brother acted like a total dick to her, which made her leave. [We don't talk to him anymore.])

"What do your parents do for a living?" "Oh, um...my daddy works in infa-" "I don't know what that is! Let's move on!"

My dad is an IT manager for my city's Transit system.

My mom is a Customer Relations phone operator for that same Transit system, and deals with stupid people. ]:

My dad is a pastor of two churches, but he's really cool and not annoyingly religious like you think a pastor would be. He also does professional acting gigs from time to time.

My mom works with formulas at the Hershey Tech Center (yes, that Hershey.)

I know I should probably edit my post again for this, but whatever.

In the 1990s, my parents (when my grandfather and them were still working at 'infared') were helping out with these incidents on Tokyo subway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarin_gas_ ... kyo_subway

In order for the firemen to go in and save the people, they had to perform a gas check and make sure it was safe to go in there, and that more people wouldn't die because of it. (In case there were more attacks; these were handled poorly.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarin_gas_ ... y_services

So my father, his father, and my mother were asked to help them with the machine that reads the gas. They had to check and help with what Sarin gas 'reads as' on the machine so they could help the firemen with their jobs. (sorry, a little fuzzy here.)

These attacks were happening in Japan.
They needed a Sarin gas sample so they could help them read it on the machine...

Sarin Wikipedia Page wrote:
As a chemical weapon, it is classified as a weapon of mass destruction by the United Nations in UN Resolution 687. Production and stockpiling of sarin was outlawed by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993.

Since they couldn't actually GET the gas...
They had to make it.
Yeeeeaaaah.

My dad worked at GM for 33 years, the last 6 with a broken neck, before he retired last november.

My mom used to run an alternative clothing store in the 90s before it closed down..now she works at a boat upholstery shop and runs a couple businesses on Ebay and whatnot.

My dad's a lawyer. Not the bad kind

I like how you say a lawyer in a criminal court is a bad thing, but a lawyer in a civil court is a good thing. Just saying, if it was the other way around, you'd probably be saying "He fights to stop innocent people from being sent to jail, not doing boring work like defending insurance claims".

If you read the rest of the sentence, it works out. I'm just used to prefacing it with something like that, because a lot of people think lawyers = evil.

My Dad is, as of now, working as a civilian Mariner for Military Sealift Command. He's on a tanker right now refueling NATO ships and shooting up pirates off the coast of Somalia. Before that, he was in the Navy for 20 years, even serving as part of SEAL Team 1, and has driven pretty much every kind of military land vehicle there is, even an M1 Abrahms. He also studied several forms of martial arts. He was also in a rock band when he was a teenager. Van Halen opened for him before they were famous, and David Lee Roth was a dick. My Dad almost beat the shit out of him for trying to steal their bands mic. Plus, his High School is where they filmed Grease, while he was still there.

My mom was in the Navy when she met my Dad, though she left and took up Sales jobs when my brother was born, and later me. Now she works as a Buyer for a marine supply company. :U
