The endings are still pretty dumb, no matter how you slice it

All right so I'm finishing my second playthrough of ME1 before I move on to 2. (Second playthough meaning "Levelling first Shepard to 60.")

And... I kind of want to retcon myself to save Ashley instead of Kaidan.

I just don't like Kaidan very much. It's not even his fault (or alternatively, it is entirely his fault) because I can't talk to him enough to get to know him without suddenly being in a relationship with him. It's like: "Yeah I don't want to be mean or anything but JUST TELL ME YOUR PAST WITHOUT HITTING ON ME."

I need to sort this out soon because ME2 is calling my name.

It's pretty easy to let them down, or even never bring it up.

Every few options, when it doesn't seem that bad, pick the renegade dialogue.

bam

besides once kaiden comes back in ME3 (he sits out 2 basically) they revamped that whole system and you should be pretty easily in a relationship with someone already which the game kinda locks you into so nobody else gets ideas

ashley just is

never worth it

ever

Pretty much yeah, Ashley's just...no.

You may think Kaiden is bad because he keeps hitting on you, but Ashley just goes from "I may be a bitch, but I have good intentions" to full on psychocunt.

To be honest, I'd rather be hit on by Kaiden than have to deal with psycho ex-girlfriend Ashley.

Considering you finally get to gay with Kaiden in 3 I loved it.

Well I retconned myself and saved Ashley instead of Kaidan. *top hat and cane* Whoop whoop whoop whoop.

But I saved Kaidan in my other file (and in my Renegade file, too).

So mathmatically I guess he's still ahead.

As a general rule, I'm pretty tolerant of characters that other people tend to hate.

Not to say I won't be proven wrong eventually, but I'm willing to give her a shot.

Ashley WAS a character one could be tolerant of.

She used to be kinda racist, but then her character arc was her getting over that.

and then she became a hate-filled bitch who blamed shepard for everything and ignored her own faults, not to mention becoming disgustingly two-dimensional

like the opposite of what happened to kaiden

They completely changed her character into something she hated in the first game.

Hmm. I'm gonna' try playing two files of ME2 simultaneously, so I guess I can keep track of things I did differently. I guess I can see my own failure play out in a glorious blaze of fire.

And now a general ME1 question, since I just re-beat 1 today:

...Who would EVER install Udina as the human ambassador? Udina, while supportive of humanity as a whole, acts like a jerk towards Shepard. Meanwhile, Anderson, who ALSO supports humanity as a whole, is totally nice to Shepard.

I can see the real-life reasons for picking Udina over Anderson, but from a player perspective I'm willing to bet 90% of everyone picked Anderson over him.

Nothing really changes other than you not being able to reinstate your spectre status in the second game. and I don't think reinstating yourself makes a massive difference either.

Charizard once you finish Mass Effect you should go play Alpha Protocol if you haven't already. It does the dynamic storyline thing way better.

ARGH I'm so angry because I just learned a thing.

Apparently if you have certain DLC installed, you can't transfer your save files correctly to ME2. It just automatically takes you to that comic book thing every time. You get the main choices accounted for in the story, but not any of the sidequests that I spent hours doing.

You have to delete the DLC to fix this, but it took me 3 hours and many failed attempts to actually download it in the first place, due to my not actually having a reliable internet connection for my PS3. And the DLC itself is in one big file, so I can't just remove the one piece I don't want.

I thought I was being proactive downloading the DLC early but now I've just made a big mess.
