I do now! When you're that age you don't think like that.

Maya sounds exactly like our cat Magic. I've only ever gotten to pet her once because she's ridiculously shy and always runs away.

However, she's a little harlot kitty and if you're bugging one of her "boyfriends" (she constantly bothers two of the male cats, Mouse and Chewie, who don't seem to take an interest in her at all) she'll come running over and smack you upside the head. She's the smallest cat but the biggest cat is afraid of her because she beats the crap out of him whenever he acts like a jack booty. It's hilarious.

Well we got Maya from a pet shelter, and she had a rough backstory. She always stayed shy, but towards me she was pretty open, coming to cuddle, sleep with me at night in my bed etc. , but she got very shy again when I moved away. But after she sees I'm there for a few days, she comes over in my room again. She's really sweat, she never bit or swiped any of us yet, or even hissed.
But Toto on the other hand... I don't know, this cat is unpredictable. Well, he's an jackass against her, hunting and attacking (but it's rather just jumping at her, he never really hurt her, altough you sometimes can hear them yelling). I remember one day, Maya slapped him back. He was lying on the ground in a position "Oh god please don't hurt me, please don't hurt me", I had to laugh when I saw that. Nowadays Maya slaps always back (finally).
Toto is such a wannabe, really. He's light as air, and gets bullied by the other cats in the street, so he thinks he has to show how strong he is by trying to pounce Maya.

OH LOOK long-lost pets topic.

So here's a question, how does bath time go for those of you with pets? Dogs, cats, rats, whatever. My dog is a really gentle, hug-sized shepherd mix used for emotional and social therapy-- social therapy for my brother, who has autism, and emotional therapy for me. He's a great learner and he'll put up with just about anything, and he doesn't bark unless someone bangs on our door unexpectedly. You can shove him around, pin him, yank his tail, whatever-- he'll gladly roll over, tongue sticking out a little, and cuddle up to you regardless. He's very patient with my brother and Izzy has made a lot of progress with him. He does, however, hate water.

Despite that, he'll follow me anywhere I go unless I shut the door (in which case, he either finds my father or presses against the door until I open it for him), even if it means bath time. It only takes a few minutes to wash him off, and he likes being tussled around with the towel after. Also, the brush is good at finding all of his itchy spots so I think he enjoys that part, too, probably. He really, really hates the bath itself, though. He'll walk into the bathroom and then hop into the tub, tail tucked and ears ruffled in the saddest way imaginable, then huddle in the corner and wait for the inevitable. I used to have to leave his collar on and hold it to keep him from escaping, but now I think he's figured out that if he just allows me to wash him it'll be over faster.

He sounds like a great dog.

I never had to bathe my pets as I've only really had birds and fish.

Haha, yeah. I pretty much only had fish until a few years ago. I did have a rat, but he died earlier this year after a fight with cancer and several surgeries. I don't regret paying for the medical work, though. He was a really, really good animal, and I consider it worth it. I only regret that it took me so long to find an animal surgeon in my area who could work with him. By then, his tumor was... inhumane and ghastly. It was almost three times as big as he was, and infected. My god, I can never thank that vet enough for being willing to try, and for making his last few months bearable, even when another tumor started to grow. I still feel guilty today remembering him trying to haul himself around his cage, still being so eager to come to me, and allowing me to try to clean his infections even though it was obviously very painful. He never bit me once during that whole ordeal, and would linger in my hands and lap afterward.

I'll say this though. He hated baths, too. I had to try to ambush him with a damp rag while he was sleepy and even then he was wily about it.

I've had three rats, two of which died of cancer at a respectable age. I gave them special medication that they didn't really enjoy, but they led good lives. The last one died a day after her sister did, both of natural causes. They were really intelligent, funny pets. They enjoyed getting attention and a chance to run around. They also got along really good with my dog, which was hilarious to see.

My dog keeps getting loose and running down the street. I usually end up chasing her for 5-30 minutes, only catching her when something else grabs her attention and keeps her still for long enough for me to close the gap and catch her, like another dog or something. We can also usually get her by getting in our car and opening the door for her, because she likes going for rides.

What should I do when she gets out, in regards to her training? Should I punish her for making us run for a long time, reward her if she stays near to the house and doesn't immediately run two blocks, or what?

WHY HAVEN'T I POSTED HERE YET I AM THE RESIDENT CRAZY CAT LADY

Image
This is Shinji, aka "Poophead". He is a bigass maine coon mix I found in a parking lot as a kitten. he is now going to be 3 in a week (the 13th). I didin't know he'd morph from a scruffy shorthaired kitten to...THAT. he is super sweet to people he knows (to the point of being super obnoxious,) and a HUGE ASSHOLE to everyone else. he sounds like a bird when he meows (a coon trait, apparently.) he has some separation anxiety in that if i go downstairs without him he FREAKS OUT and sits in the windows crying and crying for me. he should be fine once we move into a house he can roam freely instead of only being limited to certain areas. his name is little old Japanese lady-approved.

Image
This is Naoto, Shinji's sister whom i also found in the same parking lot. She is mentally challened. No I'm being dead serious. she is terrified of EVERYTHING. the water in the bowl, you looking at her, walking into the room...you never know what will set her off. she's a nightmare to give medicine to, then you won't see her the rest of the day. i pretty much just let her exist and don't bother her. she's not really a pet - more like an animal that lives in my house and i occasionally get to pet. she is super playful though and will go til she passes out. she doesn't meow, she peeps and it's pretty adorable.

Image
This is Nezumi. she is a stray cat that showed up shortly after i brought home Shinji and Naoto. originally thought to be male until i had to catch her and give her a flea bath/treatment and WHOOPS no penis. she was spayed by a trap-neuter-release program for feral cats in my area. she rarely lets you pet her, but she is very friendly and loves to be near you and rub on things near you. she was madly in love with my late cat Bandit and misses him a lot, still.

Image
my old fart, died this february at 13. he had some unknown blood disease/leukemia/something. he loved food, meowing loudly (he was half siamese/oriental and could he howl,) and catnip. i miss him a lot but i know he had an excellent life and could do whatever the fuck he wanted.

Image
Mai! She's pretty...average? She doesn't seem to have a very distinct personality (don't tell her I said that,) but she's ADORABLE and has the cutest spot on her tail.

Image
Azula! who is a big, fat, BITCH. of course.

Image
Suki! Who likes to pick on Mai.

Image
And Ty Lee, who is super acrobatic, active, and also picks on Mai a lot. When Mai was first introduced to the mischief nobody cared about her being there...but Ty Lee haha.

I also have two betta fish, a black/yellow one named Umbreon and a PANK spotted one named Espeon.

This year, my rabbit, two chickens and a cat died. And my goldfish died some time ago, can't really remember. So yeah, that was shitty. Only got a cat and a horse left now.
