are you playing as a girl

Yes...?

I like playing as women in games where the two genders are interchangeable and mostly equal (like Elder Scrolls games). Not many games have female main characters, and many that do have, uh... very bad stereotypes. (See Lollipop Chainsaw.)

I'm gonna' play as a guy for a Renegade run, though.

i was just wondering, because you can never tell in mass effect
gender stops being relevant, really, with video games in general, but ME is especially weird like that.

I made a female character too when I played. It may or may not have been based on Katie's.

Actually, I realized my FemShep looked pretty similar to Katie's about 5 hours in. My FemShep may or may not be based on myself.

I made a MaleShep based on my self.
I tried to romance Garrus in all 3 games.
I was disappointed.
I wound up being a complete slut and fucking Liara, then Tali, then Kaidan, all the while leading on every other romance option.
It sucks being Paragon.

Gonna go full Renegade next run as an ugly FemsShep who I will affectionately call Bluh Bluh Dumb Bitch Shepard.

I played through all three games as female shepard and I don't think I could go through it again. I've associated the voice with my shepard so thoroughly that I have trouble hearing it come out of any other shepard. :psyduck:

I spent half an hour one day messing with the ShepEditor to make the ugliest FemShep I could manage. I wish I'd taken screenshots, she was awful. Cheekbones were doing their own thing about a mile from her face, cheeks were sucked in, massive chin and nose, eye's were super fucked up, and she had the makeup of a drag queen.

This dialogue restriction is really ticking me off now.

I want to talk guys down but apparently I'm not enough of a saint to save anybody. A few people have Paragon options available, but most don't, and I have no way of knowing if my saintness is too low until I'm already stuck in the dialogue tree. If I had known I didn't have enough I would have waited to do those missions.

It's like the game is punishing you for trying to do everything as soon as you can.

Always level up your dialogue first.
ALWAYS.

it's an RPG of course it is

also rule number the first: level up speech immediately always

every other stat really doesn't matter all too much but speech is a big thing that you always want at a high level because otherwise you are locked out of the best shit in the game

It would have been nice if the game had been a little more forthright with this idea. As a newbie I didn't know 2 Charm wasn't enough to do anything.

The game tells you "With Charm, you CAN talk down people." It does NOT say, "You need a minimum of 6 Charm to do anything worthwhile."

I have rectified this now but I just wish it had been a little clearer.

Plot Tangent:

Just cleared Noveria, and jeez. First robots and rogue agents, and now mind control? What the actual crud.

I took Liara with me though, and WOW. Serious Biotics are actually really cool.

Oh, yeah. What did you do with The Rachni Queen?

I let her go.

I hope that doesn't come back to bite me.

It probably will.
