If your country doesn't have a state monopoly on everything but weak beer, it's pretty much a non-country.

The grocery store next to my apartment has an extensive wine section, with wine tastings every now and then.

no idea if they sell actual liquor though.

it varies from state to state but from what i can tell most places liquor is sold seperate from grocery stores.

tho apparently in florida publix has a liquor license there

You can't walk five minutes in this town without tripping over someone who just stumbled out of a liquor store.

Not sure why Walmart selling booze is a funny matter. Is it supposed to be a poor reflection on the States? I don't get it. I remember when we went to Canada, we went because it was legal for a few of us to purchace alcohol, so we were gonna celebrate by having them buy alcohol. We went everywhere you can get booze in the States. Gas stations, grocery stores, even a mini-mart. Not a single one of the sold any sort of alcohol. bodaciously the only place we could was a liquor store, which were all closed, and the bars, which were settling to close.

So yeah, I'm not sure where the funny is. I'm pretty appreciative that I can throw a rock in any direction and have a safe bet that where it hits sells some kind of potent potable...

Specialty stores are fine and all, but if you're in a pinch, it's nicer to rely on a bigger more general store for things. No sense going to an electronics store for a new power cord, or going to a book/movie/video game store with finicky hours if you can pick it up anytime at Walmart.

Convenience is nice if it comes at a bit of a cost of selection and possibly quality. If you're expecting great results though, you're better off trying to plan ahead.

I'm pretty sure supermarkets sell booze in most of Europe, since they ask for IDs to check your age I don't really see the big deal.

Supermarkets here sell booze and other types of weak alcohol. Everything stronger than 4.7% is only available from Alko which is a state-owned store.
