Do you have a more precise explanation of how it works?

Ants are the most amazing thing. At the part of that video where they start changing the shape of the raft I was going: "They're morphing into a fish!"

That saltwater engine that guy accidentally came up with a few years ago fascinates me on a destructive level. I wonder if the technique could be used to destroy harmful algae blooms like red tide. That's about the most constructive thing I could think to do with burning saltwater.

The solar cycle is reaching its 11-year peak this year, and you know what thaaaat meeeaaannnss~

Potentially apocalyptic scenarios, that's what that means! The chances of anything actually getting really damaged is slim, since we'd have a few days of prior notice (the sun is like that courteous neighbor none of us have ever had!), but still. It'd be good if everyone knew what we're potentially up against!

This sums up the basics pretty well.

Not exactly a new discovery, but something I think is the coolest thing ever:

Introducing TITANOBOA, the largest snake to ever live. Roughly twice the size of a modern anaconda, if a grown man stood next to one that was laying flat on the floor, the snake's body would be tall enough off the ground to reach the man's waist.

Basic info about Titanoboa.
Lifesize model. (For reference, the thing it is eating is an alligator.)

Prehistoric animals are the coolest.

Good thing that the general need for less food favoured smaller animals in evolution.

D-vid, I couldn't help but wonder if that Gallium structure-weakening property could have some sort of weaponized function... after all, aluminum and metals like it are becoming far more common in vehicles... a potential way to disable vehicles' structures without the need for explosives would be an interesting development.

My all-time favorite is Giganotosaurus. That thing could have taken on the mega-sauropods in what is now South America. Plus I feel like a hipster when I say that it was bigger on average than T-Rex.
