So, apparently Nintendo is negotiating with Netflix to have a live-action Legend of Zelda series produced. It is said that it will be "Game of Thrones for a family audience." They are apparently in the process of getting a writer. Though it may get tossed out the window at any point.

I don't know about you, but I'm optimistic about it:

A.) If it's good, that means there's a new series to follow!

B.) If it's bad, we get to have a bunch of goofy scenes remixed on Youtube to various songs and have countless cringe-worthy quotes to constantly repeat for five years until absolutely everyone gets sick of hearing them and it gradually becomes a taboo to even hint at its existence!

Or it will end up like the 80s cartoon series and no one ever mentions it.

Calling it now: Every episode will involve Link trying to find a key to open a door.

There was already a post about this in the Game Gabbin' News thread

I came to the Media Swamp since it was more about "sit down with popcorn and stare at the screen" rather than "sit down with buttons and stare at the screen", so I completely missed it. Oops.

I guess I'll wait for a moderator to decide if this needs locking or not.

Edit: Ooooooh. I just realized that "General Game Gabbin'" and "Game Gabbin' News" are totally different topics.
Gee, I sure am dense today.

It's hard trying to figure out where it should be, I picked games because it is Zelda.
I have faith. Tv has come a Long way since the early 90s, plus Netflix has been putting out some great content lately.

I'm excited! Netflix has got the resources for this to be epic - and for Nintendo to even begin to trust them with their IP they have to have something good planned.

I'm a tad worried that Link and Zelda don't have much of a distinguished personality. For me, personalities and storytelling really make or break a show for me.

Iunno. I thought Zelda had a whole lot of personality in Spirit Tracks.
The plot-assisting characters usually always did. Like Ezlo.

And on the point of Link, his Minish Cap character was implied to have made various sarcastic remarks to Ezlo during his dialogue, if I recall correctly.

Though, I think it's safe to say that the Link and Zelda in this series may be incarnations that haven't appeared in any of the games, so writers would have plenty of space to try and come up with a fitting personality for both of them.

You're referring to Toon Link and Toon Zelda. Adult Link and Adult Zelda have the combined personality of a cardboard cutout.
Should this series see the light of day, there's going to have to be a few changes.

Ah. Right. I forgot how everyone forgets how to have emotions when they grow up.

That is going to be a problem...

On the topic of characters, I'm hoping they have the Zora and Gorons appear. The Zora would be less time-consuming for filming since they'd be easily done through an elaborate costume and a bit of makeup, but I'm afraid they might drop having Goron characters since they'd need a whole lot of CG time as they don't exactly have human proportions. It'd be interesting to watch them appear in a live-action setting.

I've always had a fondness for the fantasy races in the Zelda franchise.

gorans will be hard to do. What if the show does seasons based on each game? Might be cool that way.

They'd have to change the entire settings and start the entire plot over if they did that.

Some delightful mindfuckery with Ocarina of Time COULD work. It'd be risky, messing too much with the fan-favorite game, but seeing as time travel is central to that game, they could also use that to move through time to the events of other games. So not a series based on one game, but a series based on the franchise, with key events from most/all games included via time travel?

Of course there is always the risk involved with using time travel, and that is that it is overdone.

I think I would prefer an attempt at a new plot altogether.

Same here, but nods and references to the games would be welcome. You know, like how the games always reference the other ones, like lore and such (sometimes in really obvious ways that stand out like a sore thumb, like the rental guy in A Link Between Worlds having Majora's Mask on his wall. wtf?)
