I heard it was pretty much calling back to the original Baum books (without specifically covering much of what the books covered), which is the reason I really want to see it because those books were my childhood.

I'd kill for them to make a movie involving The Search for Ozma.

Glinda's single strand of hair in her face kept annoying me. Everyone has picture perfect hair, and then there's that thing.

Also, I didn't understand what's so different between his flying monkey friend, and the evil flying baboons. I also saw it in 3D. I think that they tried too had to have scenes specifically for people who would watch it in 3D. I think I also didn't like it very much, because I kept comparing it to Wicked, but that's not very fair I guess.

I take it back, the monkey was the worst character. I hate hate HATE that character type. I'm not even sure what to call it other than "annoying little impish sidekick who's only there to fail at comedy".

Yeah, Glinda's hair was kinda bugging me too.

And comparing much of anything Wizard of Oz related to Wicked aside from the Judy Garland movie and the actual book is going to end in disappointment.

Finally saw the Hobbit, and I'm sure I don't have anything to say that hasn't been said already.

I also saw Cowboys and Aliens, it was a lot better than I thought it would be.

So you thought it was only a slightly festering pile of poop?

It's got Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.
Together.
For more than a scene.
It could be an abomination but that alone redeems it.

It's not a terrible movie but the title screams unimaginative and cashgrab, so you expect the worst, but it takes advantage of it's setting to the fullest and feels like a solid western.

It was a decent movie all things considered. The gold bit was a little weak though.

I wish they had been a little clearer on what it was for. I guess the end was kind of hinting that it fueled their ships, but that just raises more questions.

Apparently the graphic novel it was adapted from was centered around a critique of Manifest Destiny, with the aliens putting Americans in the same position that they themselves had been forcing on the Natives. That's a lot more poignant and sensible than "they're here for our gold," but I guess technically it's still a similar position.

It's pretty much the same, considering a lot of the push for manifest destiny was the gold rush and the resources that could be stripped from the western territories. The people who lived there before were essentially just like the humans in the movie, the ones with less technology that were being invaded and pushed away because the other group decided might made right and they were the ones in charge of the resources.

Only, in this case, the humans had some alien tech and good ol' ingenuity so they were able to come out on top. History, however, usually isn't that kind to the underdogs in situations like this. The aliens could have brought or made a pathogen to fuck the humans up, or they could have outright decimated them militarily in most cases.

Cowboys and Aliens was a really really stupidly good movie, even if the title is as dumb as they come.

And they do mention why the aliens want the gold. It's just as rare to them, if not more so, as it is to humans. It's not so much that it's used for something, and more that it's a rare metal, which has been enough for most people throughout history to apply value to things.

They've been talking about a Nemo sequel for months now.

Oh look, a November release.

That means it'll get pushed back so it can be in the summer, which delays all of the other movies that come out after it.

Disney needs to stop fucking around and release the sequels in the fall giving the summer spotlight to the new movies. Pixar is more than capable (and willing) to put out two movies a year, let them split the difference between new and old ground.
