It seemed to come out of the blue, but I was only half-watching the second half of he episode, so maybe I missed something.

Watch the episode 11. It's actually pretty good and might be my favorite one of this season.

i honestly thought the last few pages of this thread was a horrible dream i had and i double checked just to be sure and....

I wish it were just a horrible dream.

I guess I am just going to have to hope this movie does not have lasting repercussions for the franchise - if not I will probably end up looking like ol' Weegee there.

Honestly, HONESTLY, I will give it a shot. My expectations aren't high, but I will watch that movie and an episode or two.

People aren't so much as ragging on the show so much as the concept, which essentially just replaces boners with humans and fantasy with highschool and things change accordingly. You'll still have Rarity being a fashionista and Twilight a bookworm and whatever but instead of coming across a vicious manticore, it's a rat in the school's basement. Instead of going to castle canterlot to see the princess, it's going to the principal's office. Finding the macguffins of harmony? Now it's finding a date to the dance. You can start to see the issue here. Let's look at this a different way though. Look Before You Sleep? Great episode, one of my favorites. The Gilda episode? Same thing. Might as well not even be boners, but it's still great because of the interaction between the characters. If the same lot of writers that work on FiM are working on this, there'll probably still be some of that. It's just, you know, being unable to talk to a boy instead of being turned to stone by a cockitrice.

Also that's kind of a really sweeping statement to say that everyone who watches the show identifies as a heretic.

Oh, yeah. I hate that. "You watch MLP?" Yeah? "SO YOU'RE A heretic TOO?!" Nnnoooo I just like the show. You wouldn't catch me wearing a shirt that says heretic on it, going to a con or pushing forth my OTP.

that image just reminded me about how i hate it when people get on their high horse when fans of the show get rustled or upset about something

i also hate it because it implies every person who watches mlp hated the fuck out of it before they liked it
