It's not always the actor's fault. Sometimes the director or producer gets a little too insistent about what a character's role should be.

Which might explain Kristen Stewart in Snow White & the Huntsman.

A lot of times actors are simply typecast, only offered roles which are similar to ones that they are already famous for. Think of all the movies Jim Carrey has been in and try to weigh the amount of comedies against the dramas.

Thats just the drawback of having a defining role. Youre not going to shake off the stigma of that character no matter what you do from that point on.

Case in point: Johnny Depp and Captain Jack Sparrow, Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter, Robert Pattinson and Edward Cullen (less iconic more fanbase).

Are you just going to ignore the 20+ movies Depp was in before Pirates?

Zack Snyder is going to direct a standalone Star Wars film that leans more towards the samurai inspiration of the Jedi:

Your thoughts? I think it could work.

See, directors can be typecast as well. I hear the name Zack Snyder and all I think of is unnecessary slow-mo action scenes.

Joking aside, I'm interested. He tends to film rather artistic and faithful adaptations (nitpicking about Watchmen aside), so I think this has potential. I'll wait to see some trailers before I give it any more thought.

Depps typecast is being Johnny Depp, he doesnt play any roles, he's just the same "quirky!", pale, dark haired weirdo in every movie hes been in since Nightmare on Elm Street

Johnny Depp's an odd case. He's got range, but he's pals with Tim Burton and so usually ends up in similar weird roles throughout the movies Burton directs.

Watch Donnie Brasco, Public Enemies, or Platoon to see some of his not-Edward Scissorhands roles. Those are just the ones I've seen, I'm sure there's more.

You can only see so many quirky pale guys before it gets old, though. Its not even a partticularly interesting character, he's basically just there so the fangirls will see it.
